Best powder for .308 Win that I can actually find?

If you can't find powder for a 308, something is wrong in the world. There are so many powders suitable for this cartridge that it can be overwhelming. Buy at least a couple of pounds of what you can find. Develop a load and go shoot.

BLC2 and WW748 are very close/similar. I use either when reloading .308 Win. (also the .223)

IMR 4064 Is available and a good powder, doesn't meter very good but a classic in the platform.

Friend of mine loads 308 and like you wants varget but uses what's available.

Others have mentioned cfe 223

He also has good results with Imr4895 and imr 8208xbr

I recommend IMR 4064, even when times aren't tough, it's an awesome powder for the .308 Winchester. Powder Valley has 8lb kegs of it in stock, they also have IMR 3031, Accurate 2495, and Accurate 4064 in 1lb and 8lb jugs. All of those will give great performance in the .308 Win too.

I've been trying to hunt down some Varget to load up some 150 grain .308 Win for my newly adopted youth hunter. Can't find any but I've seen a decent amount of powder on the shelf. What's the best substitute that a guy is likely to find right now?

In addition to what has already been said, IMR 4166 and Reloder 15 are also decent 308 powders which you might be able to find.

N140 and N150

I have had excellent results with N-140, and surprisingly it has been one of the easier to find powders lately, There was some on the shelf at my local Big Box sporting store yesterday.

My oldest son has very good luck with W-748 and 150 gr. bullets, very accurate and devastating on whitetail deer. It is also readily available as I have seen it listed on various suppliers websites.

Depends on the bullet weight but I like TAC and H4895.

I haven't seen any H4895 in a good while!
