Tip of my list is 7mm STW, and 7mm RUM. I found a great buy in a Savage 7mm WSM though, and I may just go that way.

Is there a 7-300 Wby ?

Oh I know. That's what we're here for. that and to learn a bit. I looked a little at the 284 Shehane today. It's interesting.

I often wondered years ago how it would work to use the .300 Win Mag case as a 7mm. I wonder the same thing about the .375 Ruger case since the PRC is shortened. Maybe I should just build me a 284-375 Ruger in a Magnum length action. Quite sure it would probably come close to matching the 7 RUM, and maybe better the STW?

Edit: I see Gunwerks did just that and call it the 7 LRM. I've been a fan of the .375 Ruger since it came out, and hope to add a .416 Ruger too at some point. But I believe I have found my 7mm!

I was looking at this. The 7 WSM has 11-12% more speed than the 7-08, and the STW has 14% or so. But the WSM does it with 33% more powder, and the STW does with 40%+ more powder. Makes the WSM enticing for sure.

Wsm is a beast.

175g bullets at 3000fps (24") tough to beat (for shoot ability, efficiency, and downrange performance with softer LR bullets).

Edit….but brass sucks!

Howdy Overkill - Did you mean to say, "but the WSM does it with 33% LESS powder"? Srry, it's late and i'm kinda slow...

One of our local gun smith's that I like has been building a few 7- WSM's and they are tack drivers as well

The 7 WSM is a good round, just the brass issue to deal with. The one I had was a little finicky as to bullets, but shot 180 VLDs' very well.

I like the Idea of 7WSM or even 270 WSM on an intermediate or long action to move that bullet out of the powder space. It's a powerful round. I have considered the 7 myself. I just worry about brass procurement for it.

I was shooting 175g SMK's out of my 7mm Allen Magnum at 3495 fps. That's where the accuracy node was for it.

I have said it before and I'll say it again, the 28 Nosler can push a 195 grain bullet at over 3000 fps with no pressure issues and that pill becomes a lazer beam
