Right I agree with the more efficient case design, but I already have lots of rum brass and dies and a wyatts extended mag box. Just was wondering about switching
What im about to say is what tends to get me in trouble here.I think any on the 7's would shoot it fine. Kind of up to what interests you.
Seems like every 7mm has its own loyal following. I would say the 2 most popular are the rem mag and recently the 28 nosler.
I push 180 berger hybrids at 2970 out of my 7 saum. I bet those 162's would scream. Shameless plug, I am selling my custom 7 saum
For reference I have got out to about a mile with the saum
28 nosler7mm Rem Mag or 28 Nosler
In spite of the hype there is no "best case".Hey there.
I am thinking about building a 7mm long range deer rifle around the 162gn eldx and I was wondering which case would be optimal for that projectile , any help would be appreciated.
Even if you can't hit them keep them scared and running. What is "long range" to you?
For a truly "long range" (to meet MY criteria of 1000+) projectile, I would be looking at a 175-197gr bullet. Like a Hybrid, Elite Hunter, ELD-X, ELD-M, SMK, VLD (Berger or Matrix), etc.
And for a truly "long range" case design, I would look at a medium to big magnum. 7SAUM, 7WSM, 7SS, 7.21 Firebird, 7.21 Tomahawk, 7RM, 7LRM, 7STW, 7-300WM, 7RUM, 28 Nosler, 7 Dakota, .284 Jarret, 7 Allen Mag, etc.
If 600-800 is your definition of "long range", that opens up a few more cartridges. .280AI is one of my favorites. .280Rem, .284 Norma (or Win), 7 Sherman, etc.
I would not personally take a shot at big game over 1000 yards. Except coyotes. I will shoot those suckers at any range I see them.
Ummm... WHAT???TexasTB said it, the7-08 can Shoot the 162 Efficiently, the Regular .280 can do it quite Well, even the .284 is more than capable. All these Magnums are pure Overkill, & IMO a waste of Powder. This is the Reason behind my new "7-RPC" Build, just slightly more case capacity than the regular 7-08 and slightly shorter for more Bullet. You don't run out of Height like with the Ackley Improved and the RPC offers the user the Palma Brass in .308.
Ummm... WHAT???
First off, the 7mm-08, 280/.280 AI, and .284 Win or .284 Norma, are NOT magnum cartridges.
Secondly, how are they overkill?
Thirdly, what do you mean when you say "running out of height with an AI cartridge"?
Fourth, AI cartridges don't improve case length, so how would you run out of mag length any more so than with a regular cartridge. It actually allows you to fit more powder in the case at the same seating depth with LESS compression.
5th, please explain how your magnum bolt face 7 PRC is not a magnum, yet, the others are?
Regardless... Read what he said and read my post again... Unless you're stating that none of that matters because it's 2018... Morons don't have any reading comprehension and intelligence, in which case, I might be able to concur with you... Because liberals and Democrats do the same thing.because its 2018, and not 2000. lol
You should read it again. He gave praise to the cartridges he mentioned, then made a statement about magnums. One could assume he is referring to the list lance mentioned.Regardless... Maybe if he would use proper punctuation, then people could actually understand what he said. Other than that, it sounded like something Corky from Life Goes On would say.You should read it again.
