Best 10mm 1911 frame handgun for hunting?

Depends a lot on what you're budget is. If money wasn't factor, then I would go straight to Les Baer and get a long slide from him, and after that I would look into Dan Wesson Bruin if looking to keep it on a 1911 frame. Les Baer would be my absolute first option though. I personally carry a Sig 220 Elite Emperor Scorpion in SA/DA with the decocker, because I got an absolute steal on it, which I absolutely love. Worth a look as well.

While not in keeping with your prescription for 1911 frames, I too find the large frame Glocks fit my small/medium sized hand poorly (mine's a .45ACP, but same frame size, I believe). I've bought a Springfield XDM 10MM and find it much pleasanter to hold/shoot than the Glock, while sharing the Glock's higher capacity and lower price than most of the 1911s. It comes in 4.5" and 5.5" barrels, at msrps of $652 for the shorter, with 2 nice stainless 15 round mags, and $779 for the longer and a bit fancier 5.5 with 3 magazines.

Dan Wesson
A six inch barrel is required to get the max velocity out the 10 mm. Had a Glock 20 for about 15 years. Thinking about getting a 10 with a six inch barrel. But the 44 Mag is always a good backup when something needs to be put down

I recently sold my Glock 10mm because it just didn't fit me very well. I want to get another 10mm for whitetail and hogs and put an rmr on it for 75 yards and in hunting here in Texas.

I've done some quick research online, but does anyone have any experience with a 1911 frame 10mm that they like? Here's a few models that I've read about and are considering (don't want to spend $3k+ on a setup - so no Nighthawks or high end Kimbers, Dan Wesson's etc.)

Kimber Custom TL II
Kimber KHX Custom
Springfield TRP Operator
Springfield Ronin
Remington R1 long slide

Thanks for the help!
EAA witness tanfoglio 6" hunter! I love it! Around1200$

Yes, the 10mm with heavy bullet is an excellent choice for hunting. Building your own is much cheaper, and you get exactly what you want! Be sure to use a heavy spring and recoil stop, and go all-steel!

Nothing compares to the smith and wesson 1006 1066 imo. They dont come up very often

Look at the sig 1911

Wow ok cool thanks for all the feedback. I handled the 6" barrel Kimber super jagare today and did not care for it. But I did look at a Dan Wesson specialist and it was fantastic - tight fitting, excellent trigger and fit and finish.

But I also like the standard Kimber full size that I looked at.

I've looked at the double stack 10mms and
They're too clunky for me.

Haven't been able to get my hands on a Springfield to compare it yet but hope to soon. The TRP was discontinued but the Ronin looks very similar to what I want…only downside is having to wait to get my hands on one to make a decision.
Kimber products are golden. The trigger can be worked to 3lb. They have a fully enclosed chamber which is super important if your loading full house loads. Some 1911 don't. Carry an extra mag and forget the double stack idea if you want a comfortable carry. I carry a Kimber Eclipse Custom with some extra internal work as a cross draw. Super accurate out to what ever distance you can shoot. My 2 cents

I have an XDM 5.25" 10mm that has run perfect! The only thing I don't like about it is or with any gun that has grip safeties!

The Dan Wesson is a much better gun than a Kimber. I have 6 10 MMs, 5 are 1911s and 1 revolver. The best is Ed Brown but not in your price range. For hunting I like my 6" Long Slide. It is amazingly accurate. I have 2 Colts and 2 I built on Rock River frames and 1 Ed Brown. The Colts are the least precise of the bunch.
What makes a Dan Wesson better than a Kimber?Be specific.
