7mm STW Reloading Thread

Rem 700 DBM factory rifle, 24" BBL, 143 hammer hunter, 79.5gr R26, Fed215 in Hornady brass. Chrono at 3250fps. 100yds after a thorough cleaning. Am I leaving anything on the table or just run it?
I hit 3500 fps with RL26, so you're leaving a bunch on the table. I never hit pressure, either. This was my first attempt with Hammer bullets about 4-5 years ago and I got nervous once I crossed over the 3500 threshold. It shot so well, that I didn't go back and tinker to see how hard I could have pushed it.

These are the speeds I got today with no pressure.

FWIW, my 26" Sako pushes 160ABs at 3350 with RL26, and certain lots of 7828 were even faster. I have not played with Hammers, but unless you've got a slower barrel, I think you're leaving a bunch of speed on the table.

The 7stw is capable of running 75 Kpsi without showing serious signs of pressure. Been there, used pressure trace on that.. It's not really worth your time to pass 3400 fps with a 140 with rl25 or 26... 7828 will pass 65 Kpsi at about 3350 fps. ymmv but the extra 50-100 fps isn't worth the brass wear and stressing the rifle imo.. I had the pressure trace on a Sendero sf with the factory 26" bbl..

Good job Fire! This thread type hadn't crossed my mind for some reason. Glad it did cross yours.

Gun: Remington 700 Sendero SF 7mmSTW, 26" barrel, 9.25" twist
Scope: Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50

Current favorite is:

Berger VLD 180gr bullets
75.5gr H1000
Federal Premium brass
Federal 215 primers

Seated to 3.858" C.O.L. (Which, as we all know varies from gun to gun ).

No chrono, yet....However, the Berger manual says I should be right around 2,775 fps.
can anyone determine the manufacturer of this brass from this photo? https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/id5u...1.39.jpg?rlkey=7xelsfejpta2h0p317v93bzo7&dl=0

Does this interfere with the magazine loading, sounds a little long unless you have something longer than the factory set-up.

Hi, Definitely Bertram Brass, the 2 symbols are kangaroos, should be good brass, He does a lot of unusual and old calibres.
Regards
Graham.
Thanks for the info. Their USA division is in Virginia, I found out. I bought 100 rounds of new brass for $221. Very consistent weights. 90 rounds were within 2 1/2 grains deviation and 45 of those were within a half grain. The lengths were very consistent, with only a tiny bit of reaming to smooth them out. I reloaded the 100 rounds with 78 grains of H1000 and 162 grain Hornady ELD-X. Thus far I have fire formed five cartridges and reloaded them. We will see how they perform when I get back to the range.

the load is hotter then the 4th of July, Vo is 3475 but will need to back off, I was checking zero in the rain before a hunt, gun was wet and loaded a wet case that locked up the bolt  i don't recall the load data but will check when i get home..
I did find doing a butterbean crimp to shrink group size
What is the butterbean crimp??
