Finally got some good weather to do a little shooting.Cold bore at 1246 yards and the first time past 700 yards with this rifle.I was pretty happy. My brother nephew shot a 3" three shot group at 1246 yards and i shot just under a 5" group at that distance. It's built on a Savage 112 single shot with a 32" Mcgowen barrel 1in 9 twist. We where shooting 300 gr OTM Bergers.

Yeah had more left to right wind in the mid range than i accounted for wind flag at the target was a straight head wind thats what i had where i was.Soon as i can get the reading the mirage down i hope to fix that.I had .25 moa left on it and needed 1moa left.

The one place I shoot has steel hanging all the way to 1000. That's why he doesn't let us shoot steel with the 338. It makes nice clean holes. The power of the 300 grain bullets is something to be seen. Matt

Yes it is,I'm going to try and get some thicker steel for it.We are going to back it up to 1500 yard the next day we shoot.Thats as far as we can get at that spot.

Thicker isn't the issue. Just need better steel. I've shot my 3/8" AR500 plates at 400 yards without even a ding in them. Still smooth to the touch.

Some great spots to shoot in both VA and W.VA and also western MD. I try different routes on my trips from FL to PA and sometimes have trouble staying on the road.lol
What percentage of that type land is open for public hunting?

Sorry, everything is private land here in Va where i live. There is one place in Bland Va that has some matchs Bangsteel.com i think.Even some of the national forest have no target practice signs up.I'd love to open a 2000 yard range some where around here.Other than Bland it's a 4 hour drive for me to get to a 1000 yard range.

Thanks, not looking, just curious as to how much might be available as public land.
Thats where PA has an edge over other eastern mountain states.

Hah, didn't realize you were close to me until this convo. I'm about 2.5 hours from Bangsteel. I shoot matches there semi-often.
