Surfing through some old threads on 30-06, I came across one about launching 215 Bergers with RL-17 by @MontanaMarine on LRO. Have to admit, the load he came up with was impressive.

We were out yesterday getting elevation checks from 200 to 1200 yards. At 1000 was a NRA MR target with a long range camera in front. Used this for elevation verification. At 1200 we had the Magnetospeed shot indicator.

There were 4 300WMs and a couple of 30-06. Mine sports a 28 inch Krieger I chambered with the Serengeti reamer. Buddy chambered his 26 inch Bartlein CF with the same reamer.

Pressure testing in the high 80s maxed out at 55. 53.8-54.0 appeared to be where both rifles want to play. Ignited by 215Ms.

We had the Autotrickler V3 running on battery in an enclosed place, we were loading and shooting. On mine I loaded 10 rounds with 53.8 and the other 10 with 54 to get chrono data. Why the 0.2 grains differential? If proven gtg, for future needs I will just run them through the Dillon 650 and not worry about single kernel precision as this is not a bench gun, though it shoots. 1st round hits after cool down from 200 to 1200. 9.6 mil at 1200.

System is a solid 600 yard game getter.

Here is a Magnetospeed display picture. Random rounds between 53.8 and 54.

What is the twist on your barrel?

That gives me hope.
As long as I don't shoot a whole lot I can handle the recoil.Under 20 and I'm ok but over 20 with the 300 win mag or 300 weatherby mag and I get a bit sore.
That's one of the reasons why I got a 7mm RM. I'll launch a 180 ELDM at around 2800 fps. That should give me a recoil similar to that of a standard 180 gr 30-06 load. I'm not recoil sensitive but seem to be noticing it more the older I get. If I want to load it hot I can switch to a 180gr Berger.

All this brings back memories of the wonderful sound of that 180 soft point impacting the shoulders of a whitetail from the old 30-06 !
