If you didn't want a can on it I would have suggested an old Sako Finnbear. Buttery action and they shoot. And look good, and only appreciate in value. But if you threaded one karma would likely come into play. Glad you got love for the ol' 06. Hope yours does you right!

Went to install the rail for the scope. I had a rail in the package with no screws. Talley is dropping them in the mail today.
Got about 150 or so 168 Nosler E-Tips that would make good elk medicine. That is what this rifle would be for.
Never shot an elk with one but I did shoot quite a few moose.!!
I had an 06 when I was in AK. Started with a Ruger 300 Win Mag. The old one with the boat paddle stock. Absolutely would knock you down, stomp you and beat the bushes looking for you. I sold it and bought a Browning A-Bolt 30-06 at Fred Myer. Much better to shoot. Unfortunately, I never got to harvest a moose or caribou with it.
My first moose I shot with a interarms 30-06 with a broken stock I pinned back together
iron sights. Went on to shoot a lot more with that rifle but did replace stock and chop barrel shorter to make it handier. Even put a scope on it eventually!!!
