I have hunted with a Remington 7400 30-06 that shoots about 2 MOA, good for short range deer in South Mississippi. I built a Remington 700 30-06 with a 26" Shilen match grade barrel, timney trigger, pillar bed, glass bed, free float (action work is next) @ 3# and it shoots sub MOA with hand loads. Long story short I purchased a Weatherby Vanguard Series 2 25-06 24" with a Redfield Revenge 3x9x42 scope earlier for $570!! The gun is $750 or more everywhere.
Now the fun begins. I am franticly looking at dies, loads, bullets, etc... so that i can work up some fun at the range.
Any advice on loading the 25-06?gun):D-Jesse

JW, loaded my son's 24" barrel 25-06 with 115 Bergers with H4350 in Hornady brass and 210M primers. Consistent < .340" groups at 200 yds near 1000' to 6000' elevation. Hope you are as fortunate. Good luck

H4831 and IMR or AA4350 has always been my go to powders for the 25-06. I have killed a few hundred deer with 25-06s over the past 20 years and used a great deal of different bullets. I used to do crop damage control. Most any bullet 100 gr to 120 gr will do. My favorite bullet is the Sierra 117 Pro Hunter flat base. It is really accurate and man it kills deer dead in their tracks 99% of the time. I have killed deer with about everything from a stick through a 45-70 and the 25-06 is my favorite. If you get to using it much those 30-06s may become safe queens. :D
One of these loads will usually shoot lights out in most rifles.

52 grs H4831, CCIBR2 primer, 117 Sierra Pro Hunter and they like to jump.

49 grs IMR or AA 4350, CCI 250 mag primer, 117 Sierra Pro Hunter. This load is what my current rifle likes. Rem 700, Shilen SS #6 26" long. It does 3000 fps and will shoot 3/4" groups at 300 yards and bug holes at 100.

Advice for .25-06 you ask?

My advice....Punch the chamber to .25-06 AI 40-degree shoulder, buy a set of Redding dies 80422. And some Berger 115 VLD's. As for powder, there's lots of options. I use IMR 7828 SSC in mine. Works good for me, but every rifle is different.

You can not go wrong with a 25-06 for deer. Also, you can not go wrong with either of the 4831 powders. 56 grains of H4831 works great as a starter with 100 grain bullets and a couple grains less of IMR. 117 and 120 grain work fine if you want them, but 100's are all you need. I piled up a LOT of deer with them and most never left their tracks. The sierra pro hunters were good but I also had very good success with any of the cheap 100's including the old Nosler solid base, speer hot core, and hornady interlock..........Rich

Thanks guys...I am currently at work in the gulf. I am going to pick up some Hornady Superformance to sight her in after I mount a different scope. I am looking at actually loading some 75 grain vmax for fun to see if they will stabilize and use multiple 100 grain bullets to begin. Will be posting results soon.

I have a sendero in 25-06. Very accurate. Shoots just over .6 at 200yards. Been using RL22 and 115 Berger vlds. Also had very good results with h4831 and 110 accubonds. I'm going to try some 4350 this winter
