The 280 Ackley is just right on the heels of 7 mag with velocity. the 280 gives you less kick, a lighter rifle (generally) and more magazine capacity and longer brass life if you reload. I got the 280 ackley basically because I needed to rebarrel a 30-06 that i burned the barrel out in and I wanted to play with it. Its different and I like shooting things that are different than everyone else.

The 280 AI is a great cartridge, the 7 Rem Mag gives you 100 to 150 more fps. The Mag has the advantage on available ammo options in case of emergencies. I have the 7 Rem Mag, might be a boring cartridge but its effectiveness makes up for the boring.
