I am starting a 17 bmag thread to compsre whats going on with other 17 Bmag users are up against.

I know its relatively new but I have issues and savage customer service is horrible maybe?

So here's my issue I have to hit the bolt handle with the palm of my hand in order to open it up to discharge the spent brass.

So I called Savage customer service and talk to a customer service representative and they told me that that's how it was designed.

I cannot open the action with normal pressure and im a 6'2" 235lb man. Im hoping to resolve this issue.

I'd recommend a trip over to rimfire central, they have a dedicated "complain about the b mag" section. Its titled the 17 wsm sub section, but it should probably be renamed " all I hate about the b mag" : )

The B mag let a lot of people down from what we had started to expect from savage. Longer term memories remember sub par quality savage, but they had really stepped it up in recent years. The axis, edge, and now b mag seem a little less than where savage quality had been going the last 10 years. I've noticed that savage customer support is slammed right now, in all fairness it seems that everybody in the firearm industry is either backlogged, out of stock, or putting you on hold.

I'd hazard a guess that your the first one to complain about it being hard to open, most are amazed at what it takes to cock the firing pin on close. That hard on open would lead me to believe an improper headspace causing the brass to swell and stick. How does the brass look when it ejects?

Sorry It was such a let down. I remember when the cryptic announcement was made, even waited up all night for their new year launch last year ( it was delayed till the 13th ). Then the extreme delay in production, my gun slush fund money set aside for the b mag literally had dust on it when they hit the shelves. I got down the lower 48, called every store in OR, WA, and Id to find one in stock, drove 271 miles to look at one. Left the store as my wife describes it "looking like a 5 year old who found out the Easter bunny, Santa, tooth fairy were fake and that my puppy had just died".

But the inner 5 year has a lot of hope, Savage seems more than willing to replace malfunctioning guns. My shot show fingers are crossed that the Winchester and volquartsen 17 wsm's are out and blow my socks off.

Accuracy is my complaint. This is my second Bmag, the first was replaced by savage for extraction and accuracy issues. 3-4" groups with the first gun and 2"-2.5" groups at 100 with the replacement. Neither the 20 or 25gr stuff is consistent at 50 or 100yds from a bench.
I've been shooting for 40 years and never had a rifle I could not get dialed in. From weighing and shooting same weight ammo to working on the barrel harmonics. I guess I should send it back again but why bother until Savage can consistently produce the Bmag to be accurate.

John take a look at this bolt, maybe it will help. Savage B.Mag Tactical Bolt Handle

I know you shouldn't have to up grade your bolt, that it should work from the factory. but its better than nothing. I haven't been able to shoot mine so I don't know what issues I have. I just found ammo online and was only allowed to buy one box ( stupid). If I have bolt issues which I suspect I will since mine is difficult to cycle without ammo. I would consider this bolt option. good luck.

Yea tyour right I shouldnt have to beat on it to extract the spent cartridge but I do like that tactical bolt handle I'm going to order one up.

I bought a new B mag and cleaned it up took it to the bench and did a few five shot groups and the best it would do was 7" a buddy bought his and it will do a 12" five shot and that's FREE RECOIL !!!!!! What the hell!!!!!

Welcome to the club.......you can call savage and send it back, or do some research on the web to see what others have done to try and improve accuracy.
My first Bmag was sent back for similar performance issues. The replacement rifle I received was only marginally better.
Also, the ammo is very inconsistent, I have seen as much as 1.2 grain difference between rounds in 1 box.

I don't have the time to mess with it ..I took it back and demanded my money back they did and I ordered a savage heavy barrel HMR

I have a Bmag and the only thing I had to do was clean up the creep in the triger a little shoots like a dream. two weeks ago i got a surprise from my local gunshop owner called me and said he had a heavy barrel Savage Bmag in stainless in so I ran down and bought that one havent had time to shoot it yet with weather all nasty but will keep you posted. I call her the Unicorn cause i have yet to find and pics or info about them any where on the web

I have ordered 2 of Savage ' newly released B Mag with a factory Stainless Steel Bull Barrel. The item number is 96915 I was lucky enough to find 2 of these at a gun dealer Located In Texas with good ties to Savage. I am keeping one and selling the other for what I paid for it which is $500. The price is not including the shipping and ffl costs I had to spend on the rifle. I accidentally bought 2 so I am selling the one at a very good deal. This new b mag is promised to be a much better improve t to the original b mag released last year. I will be receiving the rifle from my ffl dealer in roughly 2 weeks. First one who can give me a $100 deposit will take this rifle home once I get the remainder ($400) when the rifle comes in.
