Remington 700 barrel swap

I would keep the Rum and start reloading.
Dont need to be buying anything fancy.
I know a guy who just has a second hand press, second hand dies, and a second hand scale, all from Ebay.
He uses an old spoon to place the powder on the scale, then trickles to the proper amount.
And he loads for a 338 Rum.
Ive watched him load, and it goes faster than you might think.

I thought a RUM-based action had RUM feed lips and would not work with belted mags, too wide.
The Nosler cartridges should work.
YEP!
A different mag box may allow you to go to a 7 Rem Mag, 300 Win, consult a gunsmith.

28/ 30 Nosler should work just fine, again, consult a gunsmith that knows his way around these actions.

Well… I'll consider myself lucky then!
Mine cycles as fast as you want without FTF with 300 WM!
Slick as goose **** on ice!

The 7/300 ultra and std mag actions have different feedrails and mag boxes. I have an action that was an untra mag action, and shells just popped out of the mag with the 7 Mag/300 Win mag box. I could drop the floor plate and insert the std mag cartridges from the bottom and all was fine, but If I top loaded it(bdl), the round would pop out as I worked the bolt.

It's been a while… so I'd have to dig mine out the back of the safe to see if my mag box was changed or if feed lips were adjusted.
I don't think I changed it, but I'll check.

Just pulled it for this photo and looks like the windowed mag so it's the original RUM mag box that I apparently adjusted feed lips on..

I would do 7mm Rem Mag with an 8 twist.
I think this is a fantastic idea. In fact, maybe I'll go this route with one of the Rem 700s I have lying around. I think I'd go 20" and throat for the 195 Berger. Would shoot suppressed, of course.

Then I'd throw it into a McMillan Mountain Tracker Long Range. Dang….this thread just cost me some money….New project inbound.

Funny how that happens!
Reading Eagleman's Long Range post has me wanting a 300 PRC.
