IMHO, bbq's post above has a lot of merit - a real useable plan with a really good ending. 7 Mag's advantages with slightly lighter bullets - '06 advantages with 180 / 200 gr. So, maybe own/use both rifles? Covers about 90% of animals we hunt.

OTH.......I can save you all that time (and $$). As bbq wisely said, keep it simple. So........just own a '06 because...deep down...agree with me or not...we all know...it is a little bit better.

If you are looking for rifle for hunting purposes then the cost of a REM 700 30-06 is not that great.
Instead of trying to do swap or a good deal just find a REM 30-06, etc in good shape and buy it.
( there will be plenty to choose from locally at this time of year )
Then go try it out, if it doesn't fill the bill then sell it. You may lose a $100 or so but that is nothing in big scheme.
That way you don't lose your original rifle ( that you may wish you had back later, I know I have felt this way!!, lol ) and you may find you want to have both rifles afterwards.
Keep it simple., just saying.

Put them in a wood stock, bed and freefloat them, tune the triggers, add a muzzle break, and all of them shoot sub 1/2" with 120-150g bullets. I was wondering if I would be better served if I traded it for a Remington 700 BDL in 30-06? I never have owned a 30-06 so this would be my first one. I primarily hunt White Tail in Mississippi and Alabama but I am getting in to elk and mule deer hunting. My land here is old cow pastures and 500 yard shots can be common. I would appreciate any advice you could give me. Have a blessed day.
