When I use a rifle, I use hand loads unless it's 22 or a 5.56 on that line. I don't really use my AR rifle. Any centerfire other than that I reload for.
Cartridges changes it a way to sell more rifles. The PRC line is a change and getting away from belted mag rifles if you want too. I have all the rifles needed to take almost any animal in the world.
As far as bumping back the shoulder that can be done with the belted may cases. I did that well over 25 years ago and by accident too. By neck sizing 308 NM case with a 300WM neck sizing die. Worked great and stop the separation at the base of the case.
The biggest change is all copper bullets or longer bullets requiring faster twist rates. It's one more step in achieving better accuracies at longer ranges.
Bottomline is full steam ahead. 😁 Do as you want, and maybe I will follow or just sit on the sidelines and watch.

And that doesn't surprise me at all. My 6.5 RPM accumark shot slightly over the advertised factory velocity. Don't remember specifics it was on a Texas hunt had to prove l could shoot and guy had his lab radar set up at the bench testing his reload work so one shot dead on target and done. One shot isn't an average speed but it's all i have. Ammo was weatherby with 127 Barnes l r x.
 
The big selling points are, short action, higher twist rate, beltless case, smaller powder charge, heavier bullets with higher BC, potentially lighter rifles...good velocity retained at long range, less recoil IF you have a brake. Allegedly more accurate due to case design. But a 1/8 twist 7mmRM will do the same performance, just longer action and more powder, belted cartridge. A lot of hunters use 7PRC hunting on the Rancho Tres Hijos my son manages, and they really like 'em. Many DRT, one shot kills at 150-200 yds. He's a hard guy to impress and in his line of work he throws a lot of lead downrange and treats rifles like a screwdriver. He's thinking of picking up a 7 RC.

I don't know what you are saying is in a short action, because it's not the 7 PRC. Better check again.

My take on this is that these are cartridges that Hornady is coming up with for the hunter that doesn't want to reload. They want to buy a rifle that will reach out and touch something with good accuracy from factory ammunition. They are for the average Joe hunter who just buys a rifle, gets it set up with a scope and buys his ammo from the LGS. Guys that reload just have another toy to play with that can be very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. I do not have a 7PRC but it is not because I don't want one, I just haven't found the right pile of gold at the end of the rainbow yet to fund the purchase. To many other things I need more at this time. I have a 6.5 PRC and absolutely love it, but not with factory ammo. I could not get my particular rifle to love either of the Hornady offerings so I started loading for it and now it is one of my favorite rifles. The 7PRC has its place but IMO it is not a replacement for the 7 RM, its just another offering that allows for shooting heavy for caliber bullets without a custom set-up. If your looking for a logical reason to get one you have already lost the battle. You buy guns because you want them not because you need them...........at least that's how I justify the expenditure to myself. My wife thinks differently. :)

My last 7mm Remington Magnum I bought was a Rem. 700, 26 " was a great shooter with reloads, but could not find brass around here ,Gander Mt. was closing and had a big sale on Rem. factory with 150 PSPCT, bought 8 box's for 150,00 for the brass. To my surprise there was extruded powder ,ball powder and spherical powder in all three, No wander there is so much velocity discrepancy, Pete

I can load for it and will be doing so soon. I'd be ****ed if I couldn't load. Marketing burnt a lot of people I bet. I'll be pushing Berger 175s. I have R26, H1000, IMR7828 to try.

Plenty of people are getting as advertised velocity with good barrels and chambers. My 22" Seekins is getting 2935 out of the gate with 175gr ELD-X and that was the first 20 rounds through the gun, the barrel will speed up some too as they always do.

Apparently, not just "sewer pipes" getting lower then advertised velocities. Nice rifles are getting similar results as well

Cool story, what about my rifle that is a new barrel getting what you'd expect with a 2" shorter barrel than test length with typical velocity losses per inch?
