New build, 7mm rem mag?

I. Built almost the exact rifle you're talking about. McMillan Gamewarden Carbon barrel. I wish I would have done the 1:8 twist !!! Trigger tech Nightforce. I'll attach a picture. Good looking rifle. Shoots great. I've hit out to 660 yards. Nothing compared to some on the forum. Good luck and post pictures when fished. With the groups too.

Changes I would make. More quick disconnects for slings. They're cheap add them everywhere. Left and right of the butt stock and forward grib. And one under too. Make sure the stock has the adjustable heck piece. My barrel is 26". I would go to a 22". 26" for a barrel with a can is very long. I would make sure the smith glass beds the action. I thought I would not bed the action due to the McMillan brand. You have to bed the action. It would cause so much less frustration to just bed the action. and 1:8 of course. You will be happy. 7mm is the way to go.

Love the scope. It's heavy. I just ordered another nightforce in 4-32x50. Haven't even got it yet.
Good luck. All the other pictures are too large.

I think you're on the right track…I have a 7mm Remington mag that is a model 700 Sendero with a Hart barrel. Mine's a 9 twist. I'd go with an 8 twist and look at 180 Berger vld or the Hornady 180 ELDm . And it's hard to beat H1000. I personally think you'll like the 7mm rem mag with a heavy bullet.

Second the 1:8 in 7mm, and second Nightforce. I'm currently building a 280AI and I went with a 23" 1:8 NSS Remage varmint profile setup. I run a 4 port brake and didn't want the barrel past 26" OAL. My last rifle was 26" + brake and wouldn't fit in any of my favorite gun cases lol.. which was a pain on a 4 wheeler in dry dusty country.
This one has HS Precision PSV107 (the Sendero stock)… yes it's a heavy rifle but I don't hike around in the mountains and I prefer shooting heavier rifles.. easier for me to hit stuff with 😊
Good luck with your build.

Manners stock (good vertical grip style), 24" Proof Research 8 twist Sendero contour. Your choice of glass. Lay 'em low.

You should see my 7-08 26 inch barrel and a can on the end . Yep finding a soft case was a pain . I had to return one gun didn't fit and ended up with a allen case . It just fits !

My rifle in my signature is 708 with a 26" Shilen, loved it.. except the whole soft gun case thing lol.

Happy to see that you're doing a custom.... it's addictive! All others will now be a bit disappointing in one way or another.
My recommendations are that you build something in a slightly different caliber though...... why? So you don't compare the others as much and to get the most out of it.

The 7mm PRC is just an awesome cartridge and you don't have to deal with the belt. Yes you can make belted shioot but they need to touch the belt concentric all the way around so they sit in the chamber straight.
No matter what you build caliber wise there are some really great barrel makers out there.
Shiloh is good but not great. If you're spending the money get something better in a cut rifled barrel. Shilen is good for a re- barrel but go with a Rock Creek, Bartlein, Muller, or a few of the others.
Shilen is what Barnells carries for the average Gunsmith. If building a rifle go to someone specializing in building rifles. Not to discredit your guy but if he is a general GS you may not be getting what you want.
The belted mags can shoot great but they should be done right in a custom. Just getting a general GS to do a basic chamber job on a belted mag is a juice not worth the squeeze.
If you want a short barrel the 7 PRC is more efficient and burns the powder in a 22"
I don't even reload for try custom PRC because the factor rounds shoot into a dime at 100, and a quarter at 200.
Bottom line is make it worth doing. Customs need to shoot great to be worth it as good OK for a factory rifle or even a re-barrel but not for a custom.
Done right you won't stop. Good news is, if you're like me, you will have less but the ones you have will ALL be your favorite!

What is the contraption the rifle is sitting on?
Brand and model.

I have a custom 7mm Rem Mag that I'm very happy with. I wanted to be able to shoot the Berger 195gr EOL.
I'm accurate to a mile (clay pigeons)
You just have to find the right load.
7mm Rem Mag Build
Stock: Manners MCS-LRH in ET Swamp Forged
Barrel: 28" Proof Research carbon fiber 1:8.24twist Sendero taper
Trigger: Jewel 1lb
Muzzle Break: Tri port

With the scope I'm under 10lbs.

I'm in the middle of a similar build, going with the 7mm PRC however

Here are my components:
-Kelybly Nanook action
-Manners EH1 stock
-Triggertech Primary trigger
-Proof carbon fiber barrel 26" 1:8 Sendero contour
-Timed 3 port break made by my gunsmith (https://mcrifles.com/)
-Hawkins Precision Hunter DBM

Still undecided on a scope but want to keep it on the lighter side so options are kind of limited with a large magnification scope that doesn't start at 6x

I too am a heavy for caliber fan and have Berger 195's I plan to try out.

Good luck with your build!
