Do all rifle???

If you had to choose one rifle to hunt everything from antelope to elk, what would it be? This rifle must use components that are readily available. It must also be a caliber that is inherently accurate. No need to waste 600 rounds of 1000 round barrel life doing load development. I want to build a rifle but can't decide what to build.
forgot to mention the 270 win. People thinks it boring but it's a killer round.

I have seen lots of guys killed with a .22. A .22 is amazingly deadly on humans. I don't know anyone that has killed a moose with a .22, but then again, I don't know that many guys.
Moose..they all get shot with a sawed-off in the ear. Try to imagine y. 😉. Y don't you know many guys? 22?

❤️ my 270. Plain old Savage Axis II. 20" barrel. Tac-driving beast with the Barnes 110gr TTSX. Just didn't want to mention it for fear of reprisals. However I won't let you stand alone. Besides there is a rebirth of sorts with the Sig fury and the 27nos.

If no large carnivores are included Jack got it right! You can't go wrong with a 270 winchester. If big toothy critters are on the menu 300 WM. And if you want to hunt the world with just one gun, 375 H&H. Any of these would do fine. Present pandemic aside ammo and reloading supplies are available just about anywhere. Good luck to you! Some honorable mentions would be 6.5×55 AI SE, 280 AI, and 30/06.

.338 win mag.....or .300 WM

2 best choices that come to mind, as others said, 7mm mag or 300 Win mag. Now.....a beltless cartridge can be easier to load, the venerable 30-06, or a .308, and strongly consider the .280. Can't go wrong with any of these.

I would go with a 300 PRC, hard not to like the upside of this cartridge, it will do it all and then some, especially if you want to target shoot/hunt long range.

Not to say I couldn't kill and Elk with my 6.5 PRC, 280AI or any other number of cartridges I do find Elk to be a very tough and determined animal, especially large bull elk, so I would favour the 300 PRC.

If your going to say 7-08 then you might as well say 6.5CM. To early for popcorn 🍿 but I'm willing to make an exception. Let the debate continue.
LOL! Here you go ...

Just a side thought to all the awesome calibers thrown out, some of these larger calibers/ cases sure take a lot of powder! I spent last night loading for my magnum and was thinking about the amount of powder I was going through, how little I have left, and how hard it is right now to get more! My 30-06 = around 55gr, my 7mm Rem mag = around 66gr, 300 Weatherby mag = 75-80gr. In this time of shortage I'm running out of powder! Bullets are also a problem as I'm not seeing hunting bullets on the shelves, just off weight and match bullets! And don't get me going about primers and the only ones I see being the scalpers on Gunbroker!
