Well put RHB, its nice to have some one like Goodgrouper follow up your work, there nothing like the call saying I got your load done it's hard to get it to shoot over 3/8!!, and know thats exactly what that gun is doing. Hope you post some of your accomplishments we can all learn a little on the way.

I would say to try some slower powder. Go to 4831 or some type or even H1000. You may see some gains in velocity.

I could be wrong, but I'll go out on a limb and guess it won't get any more velocity than with RL17. Not in this casing. H1000 might come close, but I'm guessing not. In my experience with the 25-06, I got about 200 fps more velocity (3400) with RL17 with about 90% capacity vs Retumbo (3200) at close to 100%, pushing 115 gr bullets.
In any case, no one can complain about either the velocity or accuracy so far.

I'm not disagreeing with either of you. Just another powder I thought of that might work also. Seems to favor these kind of cartridges. Superformance powder. Just a thought.

From what I've read, I think 33 would be too slow in that case. Seems it is slower than Retumbo......Rich
Thanks for the suggestions guys, we have been discussing our next test and the powders to try but the real question is whether the little case will hold enough slow powder to get any velocity? I've got a pillar bedding job ready to put in the glue in the morning and then I'm going to sit at the scales and see how many grains of the various slower powders, I can get into the case using a long drop tube with swirl charging. Bulky powders are not going to work in this case. --- RHB

Mark....AZShooter (this forum) loaded up to 102 grains in a 300 ultra with a 230 Hybrid. I don't think you can come close to that with Retumbo......Rich

Well... yeah, that would be quite slow.... going from memory, my 300 RUM is maxing @ 92 gr of Retumbo with a 210 Berger and 98 with a 180 E-Tip. 100 gr is approx 100% case capacity with bullets seat up into the necks.

IF i had some I would gladly make a trip to you!!!! when I go to Lima for my elk hunt this year!!!! hahahahahah I ordered some for my 338 Lapua but not sure if I actually made an order cuz it may be on back order
