If you had $2000.00 to buy any 300 win mag rifle that Cabela's had, which one would you buy? This would be a all around hunting rifle, with shots not expected to be over 600 yds. A scope and rifle purchase is also acceptable for that $2000.00.

Thanks

I am guessing you just mean a factory gun you'll buy at Cabelas? Regardless of what they have on their website you can call any retail Cabela's gun department and have them order you a gun, and even ship it to the FFL of your choice if you don't have a Cabela's near you.

That being said, do you hike alot when you hunt or do you do more of sit and wait? If you hike alot find a gun that is light to medium weight like a savage or one of the new weatherby's. If you sit and wait then something heavier like a remington sendero II.

Personally I like a 26" barrel as you get a pretty good jump in velocity with the extra length. And I will only hunt with a stainless/synthetic style gun. So right there that starts to limit the choices.

Also keep in mind, with a $2k budget, you can call Cabelas and have them custom order you a gun from HS precision, Remington Custom shop, Kimber, etc. They have huge buying power and will be able to get you any gun you want!

Sendero SF II would be my choice. My wife bought me one last year for Christmas and it shot very well. The custom bug got me and I had it rebuilt into a custom.

Just to answer some other questions so that don't come up.

Factory gun or Factory Custom Shop rifle
I have a $2000 gift certificate.
I know that cabelas can order pretty much any gun.
I probably hunt 50% horseback 35% on foot 15% on a wheeler.
Minimum barrel length 26"
No preference to blued or stainless
No preference to well made synthetic stock or wood stock.

I am wondering what would be the best gun or the best "scope and gun" combo that I could buy for $2000.

I bought one of Cabelas special edition Remington 700 BDL's with a fluted barrel in 300WM. Love It!! My first Remington rifle and incredible. Weighs in around 8# with Leupold VX2 CDS scope mounted. Accuracy is incredible; so far it's printing 1/2" 3-shot groups at 100yds....and that's without tailoring the load. It ws last year's special edition and on clearance for $549. Personally, I'd consider this rifle with a nice scope. Use the remaining cash for some custom work and possibly send it out for a teflon finish. Cabelas SKU number is #02660877. I couldn't get it to pull up on Cabelas website, but as of 3 weeks ago there was still one in the rack at the Richfield, WI store.

By the way, max loaded 210 Bergers were "pleasant" to shoot in this rifle despite it light weight.

Model-70 Winchester Extreme Weather, or Coyote Lite.
Leupold VX-III 4.5-14x40 A/O with B&C Varmint Hunters Reticle.
It would fit into a $2k package nicely.
Plus the added bonus of already having the Bell & Carlson stock, & m.o.a. trigger.
Yep, fits like a glove for what your looking for, except the 26" bbl.
If you want that your stuck with Wby Mark-5, or Remington.

I'd look at the Browning stainless stalker with a boss and the biggest leopold or elite that I could get at budget. I simply love my lh stainless stalker in 300 win, topped with a 6-24x40 Elite 4000, it has killed nearly 20 deer in the last ten years for me, and some have been darn difficult shots. It'll hold a 10 shot 100 yard group to an inch too with good ammo. The boss kills the recoil to the point I almost always watch the bullet blow through the critter.:)

I'd get a Win. Model 70 standard sporter grade. Their action has a much better track record for reliability, accuracy and ease of maintenance than any other box magazine action made.

It's 26 inch barrel will give about 50 fps more velocity than a 24 inch one. And I think its stiffer and probably more accurate than their fluted version. Their web site claims: The fluted barrel allows us to give you a stiffer barrel profile that does not carry excessive weight. If both their fluted and standard barrels have the same profile, that's not true; it's physically impossible. I'm going to call them today and ask about their barrel profiles.
