The Most DISSAPOINTING Bullet there ever was...

For me, it was the old X-bullet, but not in all calibers and loads. Some worked ok, and some never grouped or opened well at all. Otherwise, the 110 FMJ in a 30 Carbine.

In handguns, it had to be the old 130 FMJ-RN we were issued for our 38 Spec's in our flight ALSE gear. I would rather carry a 158 RN lead than those things, but eventually, all problems were solved by the issuance of the 9mm M9 and 124 FMJ's - HA! (Keep a personal 45 or a box of 9mm HP's quiet and handy)

Hmmm, pretty much sounds like every bullet made sucks for someone for one reason or another!
And that's the crux of it. They are just a lump of lead and copper (or copper) and can all do unpredictable things. They are shot into animals at all sorts of ranges, angles and speed.
They are shot into fatal places and non fatal.
The margins are small and variables huge.
And we complain about the exceptions and forget about or ignore the majority.
There are very few hunting bullets with fatal flaws in their design. Ive shot literally thousands of deer and cant name one bullet that consistently performs poorly. I could though name a few that I prefer over others.

In my limited experience and humble opinion the hornady SST is an amazing killer if used in the ranges and velocity it was designed for. I've killed a number of animals culling and besides the speer 6.5mm 140 seconds from midway it's the second best killer for culling 10 yds out to 500 yds. Light skinny framed goats approx 70-100 lbs out to 1,000+ lbs wild cattle. I never had one not work and I've even killed my biggest bull elk with a 30-06 and 165 gr SST. I took a second shot on an already dead animal to secure him while we made a slippery climb to him 300 ft down a gulch. This is my go to bullet for anything in Hawaii but each bullet has its limits and purposes. I don't use them in ULTRA VELOCITY 3200 FPS+ but they hold up excellent in normal conditions. Test book mushrooms up against the far side hide!! Aloha

Edit.. I use them today exclusively in my 243 win 95 gr SST, 257 +P 117 gr, 6.8 SPC 120 gr, 7mm-08 140 SST, 308 125 gr SST, 30-06 165 gr SST and 300 RCM 180 SST. They all shoot 1/2" or less and of course better bullets exist. I've lost animals but it was from human error. Up to 500 yds HORNADY SST KILL.

sending you a message about hunting there.

Incoming!! Remington Core-lokt. Absolutely would not expand on game. I think I once put six from my .260 Rem into a deer before it stopped running away from me.
It died from lead poisoning first before blood loss. CoreLokts need to strike bone first in order to expand. Seems like the 30 cals gernade but in .264 if you can get them to shoot accurately they are deadly if under 150 yards. I've harvested (4) Elk and lost (2) . I'm going to try Norma Oryx 156gr next.

I have fired a 25.06 rifle just one single time in my life. It was on a friend's ranch in west Texas using his rifle loaded with the Hornady Superformance 117 gr SST. We slipped within 100 yards of a big Aoudad ram standing broadside and I put one round right through his shoulders. Jay immediately told me that I would probably have to shoot him again due to their toughness, but the big ram just lay down and died.
Just goes to show how much one's mileage may vary.
That is freaking incredible! And it also makes me question the consistency of every lot bullet manufacturers put out there. I shot that same bullet at a big boar and blew a hole the size of grapefruit in his armor plate, he grunted and ran off like hey buddy go get a bigger gun. 😒 Another blacktail shot at the back of the rib cage funky quartering away angle. Bullet blew up on the first rib it hit went up the backstrap about 4 inches and lodged in the meat. 3 hours, 2 dogs and 5 guys going 3 miles we caught up to him and killed him. Then I shot another big boar right behind the ear. I've killed a bunch of hogs with this shot with Partition's and it's lights out game over broken neck immediate lights out. Not with the SST. Again it blew up, separated the lead kinda switch directions and ended up in its snout. Jacket was up in the neck meat. Hog went into Tasmanian devil mode and 2 additional shots finished it off. That's the last time I shot them. Plenty of people like yourself have had excellent luck with them. Just not for me. If someone gave me a few boxes of SST, I would turn around and trade them for chicken eggs. A dozen would probably be too much to ask for though. I'll stick with the Nosler's even though they cost double. Maybe the SST is amazing and I'm missing out? As the saying goes, to each their own.

Like your previous experience, The SST can be very frangible especially at close range and o rhigh speed. At distance or low speed they may work just fine.. Would be a great ear hole bullet and/or antelope bullet
