30-06 that could

6.5 Staball also gave good reported results with heavier (200 plus) bullets. These new loads are right there with 300 wsm loads and more rounds in the magazine. Hard to beat for hunting applications.

The 06 will go hunting.

My buddy drew CO cow and mule deer buck tags. We're heading to the San Juan Mountains, 2nd season. Initially we put it a lot of efforts on our 300WMs, after seeing what the 06 did last Saturday with the 215s, his 06 will get the nod for the primary gun. A plus, his 06 is 3 pounds lighter than his 300WM.

We didn't have much trouble getting my buddy's 300 WM to shoot well. But man 83 grs of Magnum it sure does eat a lot of powder. Good luck with your hunts! keep us posted please.

For you guys shooting rl23, rl26, and staball in your '06, are you using magnum primers? Being able to stick with regular LR primers has always been an additional plus for me in the '06

I'm not using heavy bullets in my 06s right now, but I'm using Staball6.5 in one of them with 150 grain ballistic tips.
62.5 grains and a federal 210 match primer went over the chrono yesterday for an average 3044 fps. It's also very accurate.

Curious to see which powder will equal the RL17 in velocity/precision when pushing the 215s.

My original RL17 from the introductory year is dwindling fast...

It will be hard to find an equal to rl17 for velocity with the 30/06 running the heavies.

I tested rl26 in my 30/06 with 215s and it's to slow. I had to use a drop tube and still couldn't pressure out all the way with bullets seated at a COAL of 3.605" it produced a little more velocity than h4350 but not much.

I would like to test Hybrid 100V.

On that note, I've been wondering if anybody's seen a handy table or chart listing the different twists in 30 cal and what modern bullets work in them? That would be super handy while trying to decide on a twist for a project I'm dreaming up.
I don't know of a chart, but free online calculators such as Berger, and JBM are available.

My most recent barrel is a 1-8", I shoot mono's mostly and faster hasn't proved a disadvantage.

Today we are reading about the old 30-06. The old workhorse just sat in the back of the closet while we tinkered with the next great wonder cartridge...until we began thinking... "I wander what the old 30-06 cartridge would do if I loaded it with this new powder with that new bullet".... TA-DAAH!!!
It's not just for Garand's anymore. Those weened on cheap surplus military ammo may have missed the change.

Our 300WMs chambered with the same reamer, a modified A191, run the same ammo, 79.0 grains of N570 launching 215 Hybrids equally well. Just velocity difference. His sports a 20 inch M40, Gemtech suppressed, mine 26 inch carbon wrapped with SRS Ti Pro 3.

With the 300WM my repeatable X ring accuracy (1 MOA) off the tripod is midrange, inside 600 (harder than it looks). Easier for me with sling since I shot with one for years.

Waiting on a @livetohunt SRS Arca rail like the one on the 300WM to mount on the 06, then back to the range for more training on field position shooting.

Looking forward to the H100V results.

I tried that with shooting sticks and my elbow on the arm rest. Easier/ more stable for me to shoot with stick sitting on the ground slung with a back pack as a rear rest. Certainly a challenge.

Yes.

I shot standing, sitting on chair, sitting on the ground, and prone with tripod legs fully extended, and pack as you mentioned, ala FTR. Have to train at all of them. Years ago I even had a lightweight rabbit ears velcroed to my backpack when we hunted open long Senderos and no blinds.

Awesome. I have actually tried sierra 150 PHs with staball and cci200s. I think my charge was close to yours or maybe a little higher and velocity was right around there too with a 22.5" barrel. I was getting some not great velocity spreads though

heading to camp tomorrow for our northern opener her in New York, having hard time not bringing an 02(I have 2) but I bought a 6.5PRC I want to test drive and .308 with 151 Hammers. gonna be hard this weekend. lOl
maybe one of the future weekends
