FFP scope for an elk rifle

I really like the LRHS/LRTS. They aren't the best at anything but they hold zero, good mag range, track great, have decent reticles, glass is adequate and the parallax isn't finicky. I think they are a bargain for the price. Side by side with a MK5 and a NX8 for a pure hunting scope I think I'm choosing the Bushnell.

In the world of optics, that's pretty darn good

It really is. They aren't perfect, in my dream scope world they would be shorter, have .2 hashes and a little crisper turrets while being 7 ounces lighter with Swaro level glass and keep the same price!

But they are just a kinda ugly, long, not very exciting scope that you always think you need to sell and "upgrade", then once you get the new shorter latest hotness you realize just how good the LRHS is and want it back!

LRHS:
-no zero lock. This has never posed an issue for me in practice.
I'm confused about this, what Bushnell calls the RevLimiter is on the LRHS and sounds like a zero stop. What is it you're saying the LRHS doesn't have? The LRHS is my top choice now, trying to see if there are any deal breakers.

Edit: if you mean no turret lock, yeah that's a bummer but not a deal breaker. Shouldn't have put it on my requirements list in hindsight.

If you haven't already out of all the scopes you have listed the Meopta is hard too beat . If I were you I would read up on all the reviews and compare light transmission dusk and dawn etc . The Meopta Optica 6 scopes have zero stop and zero lock with capped windage and are compared too scopes 2 too 3 times there price . They have European glass and are not made in China , they made some of the Zeiss scopes and have been around for nearly 100 yrs I don't think you can find a better scope for 2 grand. At least check them out

The lrhs2 seems to offer a lot, and there glass in there high end is awesome. The vortex while isn't getting the best of reviews at the moment, im sure there are way more good then bad. I personally love the razor lines, and thing the lrh make for awesome optics.

Another id look into is the element nexus. Super nice glass, tracks perfect, good weight and prefer the reticles over the bushnell one. Been super happy with both of mine.

I personally don't see a need for ffp if you have good turrets to dial but you also mentioned prs and mil graudations so I'm guessing it's a personal preference.

I'd look for a used mark V, they're hard to find in your budget but not impossible with a little time and effort.

If you're willing to go sfp a used VX6-HD would be easier to find used in your budget. I've bought 4 used VX6-HDs in 3-18 and 4-24 with zero issues.

Thanks but set on FFP, not looking to recreate that regular discussion haha.

Thanks. I'm sure if I ordered an LHT and tested it well, if there was an issue I could get a repair or replacement. I've got time to do that, could work fine.

I hadn't looked at Element, but the Nexus kinda seems like a heavier LHT? Similar price, 5-20 mag range is slightly narrower, has almost the same very narrow 23.3 ft FOV at min power (linearly interpolating I'm getting that would have 15.1 ft FOV at 12x, compared to 15.4 for LHT) but it weighs 28 oz. The Helix 4-16 is cheaper and lighter at 23.8 oz, but has an even more narrow FOV at 26.5 ft, 13.2 ft at 12x.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and advice, please keep it coming. I'm talking with the guy who has that LHRSi in the classifieds, but we'll see.

For completeness, here's the list (plus the XTR3i that is supposed to be distributed soon):

I've been linearly interpolating between min and max FOV to get FOV at 5x and 12x to make an apples to apples comparison, I think that works but I'm not positive. The LRHS (and LHT and Mk5HD) don't do well on FOV, but are highly recommended by you all and I'm weighing that a lot higher.

Not sure why your set on FFP, I have 2 Mark 5 (FFP) and 4 VX5 (SFP) scopes along with many other brands the VX5HD are the best bang for the buck in hunting scopes in my opinion. For what your doing a VX5 3x15 will do you perfect (and easily picked up under 1k). If you decide to do other hunts out that way say Pronghorn the FFP might not be best choice.. but to each their own.. good luck on the hunt!!
