Jill and I want to re-start a build that was in progress for a 338 LM right at the time of my neck spinal cord operations. We had to put that build on hold over four years ago. Now that am feeling a little better and we have all the equipment to make an ELR build Jill sas "Go For It". I have my ideas, but thtere are a lot more and better ideas out there.
For those of us that are interested ELR what would be your pertfict build if money wasn't involved. This is on a 338 Lapua Mag . What Action, Trigger, Barrel (material, lenght & twist) What chassis, What scope. Then what bullet weight/brand, case brand, and powder along with some custom loads to go with your configuration. You have 10 seconds-go now!. Naw maybe by the begining of next week. Jill and I are shooting for three days Friday/Sat/Sun and will stay off the computers to fucus and relax on shooting only.
Thanks
Len & Jill
The best build listed may be the one we build. and if it is built you will be invited to shoot ELR.

Well I'm no pro and no Special training so here is what I have accomplished!
Put together a 338 Edge , 300 gr bergers at 2850 ft.per.sec. 29" 1/10 twist Kreiger heavy Palma barrel with a radial brake . I had the 300 Rum brass to neck up and a Remington action .
My personal best after my Open Heart Surgery was 3 in one hole at 100 yards and a 26 3/4" three shot group at 3027 yards . (1.72 miles )
It has a 55 moa base , 200 min. Valdada adj.base topped with two sets of Vortex rings and a Vortex Razor gen 1 .
I put this together on a semi tight budget.
To say it's been fun is a Understatement!
I have to shoot from a bench ..to lay prone is terrible pain to my chest .

I have an Edge and two Lapuas (used to have 2 Edges but rebarreled one to 28N). They are essentially the same - I just shot my Edge at 910 yards - MV with a 300 Berger was 2877, which is about average. My fav Lapua is a Stiller action, Brux bbl, and McM stock.

I don't find ranges beyond where I can stick a round within 5" very interesting, so I certainly don't shoot at 3,000 yards, or even 2,000.

The advantage of the Edge is a cleaner mag but what I don't like about it is fire forming cases. I tried Bertram but that was way too soft. I currently use Nosler 300 RUM necked up but chomping at the bit to get some ADG.

I'm happy with the Remingtin brass in all three of my 338 Edges so far . Adg might be the Cats meow but I haven't tryed it yet.
I pushed the Proof Carbon 30" to 2884 ft.per.sec. it was devastating on my Elk at 1244 yrds ..
I was excited to build a 33XC but never followed through . The 375 Cheytac is next for me .

What are you getting for barrel life? I am shooting about the exact same MV and bullet (using 90 gr H1000). So far my Edge has 186 rounds (I only shoot it 700 yards and beyond and only one shot per condition). My Stiller Lapua has exactly 300 more rounds than the Edge; the guy who built it said I should be able to get 3000 rounds but I will be thrilled if it lasts half that long. But I shoot it like my Edge; one shot at LR trying to gauge the wind hold. I generally wait two hours to get a different wind condition before shooting. In AZ in the desert, I generally shoot at targets 45 deg from each other; one at 800 and the other at 1200, but even still, the 800 yard shot gives vital feedback that is hard to ignore when I shoot at 1200.

I dreamt for decades about a no holds barred Lapua, and finally got it finished a couple years back. Mine is a Lapua AI built around the Surgeon XL single shot action. It's got the rigidity of an I-beam. The stock is a McMillan A5 w/ KMW cheek piece hardware. Barrel is a Bartlein SS 1-9, 1.400 at the breech, 1.000 at the muzzle, 30" finish. Triggertech Diamond trigger set at 12 oz. BAT trigger guard. TBAC brake and 338 Ultra can. Spuhr mount. S&B 5-25 with Gen 2 XR. The rifle was built by Mark Gordon @ SAC.

For ammo I am using Redding bushing dies, the seater was reamed out by Mark with the chamber reamer. Lapua brass, Fed 215M, Berger 300 grain OTMs, RL33 powder. MV is around 3050 with great brass life.

The gauntlet has been thrown. Beat that LRH! =)

So this build is dam close to what I would be going with.

Id be building on a defiance deviant action instead. Exact same stock. For a hunting set up I'd go with the smaller breech barrel and stop it at 26 inches. If it was strictly an ELR the heavier barrel and 30 inch would be my preferred.

Outstanding set up sir!

Take a look around here. Lots of great builds.

Keep ideas coming. I think that I already made one mistake by not buying a component for this build that I should have. Sometims you don't know how good a deal you had until after you passed it up. We are 98% on the bullet we want. Now when we have the other 2% we will start buying the components to build around it.

Tom is rarely on this site but shot the 2000 yrd record with a 338 LAI.Alex Wheeler well known
on here and a bench shooter himself has shot with him.He just built another friend of mine a 338 LAI,not everyone runs the long barrels needed,so you have to check into that.Alex W. is who id ask.
