I've lapped every set of Leupold rings I've ever used. Recently, I put a set of Warne Mountain Tech rings on one of my rifles and it was recommended by Warne NOT to lap them. So I didn't. I really like those rings.

Basically you bed the scope in the rings just like you would an action In a stock you end up with all mis alignment out with 100% contact.
I've taken rings which have been canted to one side and use very small shims in the bedding to bring your wind age to the center of your scope.
Dont believe everything you read, quality mounts are alot better that's true.
What do you do when the action screws are out of alignment for the mounts?
Are you suggesting I cancel my subscription to the Huffulington Post?
As for out of alignment action screws, I've never encountered them but I'm sure they occur.
So every scope you have mounted is centered up in the middle of its windage adjustment.

Think that can also be caused by barrel not being straight with the action.

I also have lapped all of my Leupold rings, and Talley rings. I do think it makes a difference with the Leupold rings. Recently I bought a Sphur ring/mount set. They were very expensive and exceptionally well made. I'm not going to Lapp them.

I always lap the rings no matter what the manufacturer says. I don't want to damage an expensive scope with ring marks. I think I use Wheeler except for the 34mm. I turned the rod I used for that scope.
Exactly, so is it the action face out of square to the raceway or scope mount screws not centered up to the raceway of the action. So how do you know what's not square.
Or is it the mounts.
I have not had the need to lap the Nightforce or Mark4 Leupold rings which have all appeared to have very high contact area. I have lapped the Talley rings(bottom half) to get a minimum of 70% contact area. I bed all one piece bases.
Instead of worrying on what others have or do, how about we concentrate on your specific issue/concern so we can help you better in your decision-making process, otherwise we are going to be all over the place as you can see. What scope rings and scope you have in mind if you have not purchased them yet? As you already know this hobby is budget driven, there are scope ring set-ups out there that are very pricey (i.e. Sphur) and scopes that are more than your average house mortgage.

I lap all my 2 piece ring sets, sure they can be high quality & machined from one piece of material but what happens when they are attached to either a rail or dovetail?
This is where the miss alignment could happen.
If it was like a set of 1 piece Sphurs(I dont own any) the main reason I would still do it is more to smooth out any machining marks rather than alignment.
