Interarms rebarrel

I have whitworth interarms 7mm that I want to rebarrell. I killed my first deer with but it's shot out. I'm leaning towards a 7 STW 26". I don't know who's good & who's not. Prefer stainless, fluted & a brake. Will be a hunting rifle so nothing heavy. Not sure what twist is best but I'm wanting to shoot 175-180s for sure.

The action may not be long enough to feed the 7STW from the magazine. Check the length carefully before choosing a caliber, otherwise you will have a single shot.

The Mark X is a Model 98 clone. You can only use a short (30-06) length magnum, i.e. another 7mm Rem Mag, 7mm Weatherby mag, .265/.257 Mags, etc. Lots of good choices....

"7mm" what? 7X57, 7mmRSAUM, 7mmWSM, 7mm RemMag, 7 X 61 S&H? Also read one of the postings here where someone suggested going to the Sherman wildcats. Sherman calibers are great. But if you have a 7mmRemMag, I am not sure if Sherman cases are belted, or can be used in a .532" bolt face that is magnum ? Maybe Rich or another reader can help with this question?

Great. I agree with RevJim 100%, you've got lots of choices for calibers. I'd like to suggest that you take your time and study the calibers before making a choice and get what you want. Once the money is spent and the rifle is built, you cannot unring that bell. I wanted to have a custom built rifle, but couldn't decide between a .270 AI and the .280 AI 40 degree. After a lot of reading and many months, and all of the suggestions and recommendations, I went with the .280 AI 40`, What game are you going to use the rifle for?

Most likely it won't be long enough for an STW unless you want a single shot...hard to beat the ol 7mm Rem Mag...

Whitetail mainly but mulies & elk as well.

I'd go with the 7mm Rem Mag but you could do a 7mm-300 Win Mag.

I think what you gain in horsepower with a 7-300 you would lose with COAL restrictions. Can't go wrong with staying with a 7mm RM. It's prefect for the game you are chasing

Don't have much to offer to your caliber decision, but I have an Interarms Mark X that started life as a 7mm RM, and was re barreled to a 300 WM before I bought it for a song. Rifle is a hammer and my favorite (and go to hunting) rifle now. I did upgrade to a Timney trigger too, which I felt was an enormous improvement. Have shot quite a few 0.25" groups at 100 with it and a couple sub 1" at 300 groups. Cool platform that is often overlooked in an ever expanding world of rifle choices. It certainly can be made to hammer though.

I see no issues with making a 7mm-300 wm since the action can handle 300 WM in the first place lol.

Sherman Shorts are non belted and based off the 7mm SAUM, which uses the same bolt face as the 7RM.
I'd definitely check the 7SS out if I were the OP. The 300SS is no slouch either.
