The Summer Slump... . What are you working on?

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.... sifting through the ratio of shifting shortfall between time and money. Work equals money, equals no time.
I have a bunch of loaded ammo that stares me in the face as I walk by. I know there's a 1/2 MOA load there just waiting to be sent

I started out the spring trapping bears and shooting while working on my range. A bit of load developement, bit of
F Class, training for an upcoming deer cull; and that gets me to elk season . Seems like there's always something to do.

Work has been real busy the last two months but I usually get out to the range for a couple hours on the weekend. Try to do a little rifle and pistol shooting. I go about 7am before it gets too warm.

Been mowing grass when the weather cooperates. We've gotten a lot of rain lately. Haven't shot much lately because it's so warm I'm sweating when I'm outside. Shot 20 rounds through my 270 on Monday I think.. might've been last week.

@WildRose I'm in the Dallas area and have been suffering with you on the temps, though this week has been fairly mild in the mid-90s!

I have a few new rifles I've been tinkering with- some for over a year and some for only a couple of months...time is hard to come by and the range I was a member of shut down around this time last year, and I haven't found a new one yet. As a result, getting those rifles dialed in has taken a lot longer than I had hoped. I've been trying to do brass prep and loading in the evenings in the garage, but only in small time increments. Even at 10:30pm it's still up around 98 most nights. Going to try to attend a PRS event in a couple of weeks as an observer- I am curious to see what all the fuss is about.

Other than that, with two boys not even in Kindergarten yet my hands are pretty full most of the time.
I feel for ya man. Ya'll don't get near as hot as we do here to the west but you get all of the humidity. I could never tolerate summers east of 281 and certainly not east of 35.

Enjoy those kids while you can, they'll be looking you in the eye and headed out the door for the last time before you realize it.

I've been renewing all of my trainer certifications since November so I've shot more handgun in the last six months or so than I had in the two decades prior.

I've also been doing a lot of teaching in between my own courses so it's kept me running pretty hard. I didn't realize how much I missed it but I'm having a whole lot of fun both as the student and as the instructor.

Been scraping together what hay I can. We are on our 2nd year of drought(right on schedule, two years after a Texas drought we get one)
Been shooting my 308 enough I'm falling behind on reloading as I practice for a prs match. Hard to beat a 308 for volume shooting. I put shells through it until I notice a sticky bolt lift then clean it. I never notice a change in accuracy. I picked up a box of 208eldm I'm wanting to work up a load with and improve it's long range capability, but I'll get to that maybe this fall/winter. Got drawn for antelope so I've been keeping my eye out. Found two nice ones but the one has a little more character in his horns a little more width and I think will go 80+ inches but I'm poor judge of antelope lol
Give the Prime Ammo a look for your match ammo. The price and quality are both fantastic and the brass is excellent for reloading.

We've had some 116 degree days along with the monsoon arriving bringing much higher humidity. Several of us have driven 2 1/2 hours north to 7000' elevation to test loads. 70's and low 80's there.
I wish I had that option. It's about an eight or ten our minimum drive for me to "get that high".

Somewhere about mid summer every year I start thinking about how much I'd like to live at around 5,000-7,500' and then I think about winters at that elevation HA!

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy....

I thought it went "All work, and no play, makes Jacks wife content to stay!"
Glad to see I'm not the only one stuck doing home projects! Hunting season may be here before I get the yard project wrapped up!

My wife would tell you I get far easier to live with as my time in the field increases each year.

@WildRose
Great Thread! Learning something about members here (instead firearms, etc.) is a nice change of pace.
@jpfrog
I've got one that is starting Kindergarten in 2 weeks and this summer's "projects" have been focused around her. Juggling Physical Exams, Eye Exams and Dental Exams around work schedules has been the order of the summer. Work schedules HAVE NOT been conducive to a smooth, consistent summer this year due to the Incumbent Sheriff here NOT being re-elected (That's all I'd better say about that ). My off-days have been Thurs/Fri since June which means I have to keep a little 5 year-old girl busy for 2 days instead of monkeying around in the reloading room. It's been fun though...in between gardening, kite-flying and swimming in the pool I've managed to get a great tan! The good news is I'll keep Thurs/Fri off days until October so when school starts in a couple weeks I'll have 2 days around the house by myself (bitter/sweet) to get back into what led me to this forum. :)

Not much of a slump in the hot summer months here in the Northeast. There is no shortage of rimfire/center fire PRS matches, 200/300 yard egg shoots, and various other shooting/competition events. I pick the events that are the best conditioners for the upcoming hunting season... Whatever time I have available during the week days, in addition to business, time is spent reloading/preparation. Just re-barreled my shot out Savage LRP Egg Shooter with a 6.5x47 Criterion Match barrel.

What part of the north east are you from?
