Yeah, passive aggressive. If you want to waste time with useless posts that's super cool. You can go make a thread about whether or not proof barrels shoot unicorn farts and at what temperature said farts reach.

We spent 3 pages playing that game, it finally died and was resurrected for a useful cause.

I've not made a single negative statement, or posted a single negative comment about CF barrels - other than the CF wrap will not cool the barrel more quickly than a 100% steel barrel.

Never said they aren't the perfect barrel. Never said the CF wrap makes them bad barrels or a *** in any other way. Never even implied anything of the sort. They won't cool down as efficiently as an all steel barrel. Maybe there's no negative consequence to owners. Goody for all, especially for those that own them. Most of all for them! That would be most wonderful during this Easter season.

Does that evoke your aggression? Void of any hint of "passive"?

What we witness here is the NightForce owner syndrome. Scopes that MUST walk on water because we own one - or a dozen.

I want to build a light rifle for hunting. I have target rifles; this won't be that.

I'm thinking Manners EH3, Axiom/Tempest/Nucleus, Timney or Triggertech, likely with an ADL bottom vs an APA DBM setup, and a 24" tube.

My goal is sub-7-lbs (without optic).

I'll hunt suppressed, so shorter provides maneuverability and lighter weight. Balancing that with velocity loss if I go too short (<22"?).

Sounds like a fun rifle, what caliber are you planning? Seems the weight difference dies off quiet a bit as you shorten them. I believe Joel Russo posted a thread of an ultralightweight build pretty recently on an axiom.

Provocative because? If you didn't own a CF would they provoke? If you didn't own a CF, would you still choose aggression and be proud of it? Are you prone to aggression?

All because it's pointed out that the CF barrel wrap insulates?

blah blah blah... No negative there right? You're exceptionally selective in identification of "negative" posts and intent. If it supports your belief system it's not negative. If it offends your mental state of mind for whatever reason, it's deemed negative.

Plenty were interested in the claims of thermal efficiency. You understand, not everyone is you?

Everyone who has a proof barrels likes them. That was a good enough reason for me to try one and they look wicked

I love my proof Barrels and they absolutely hammer. I did not use them for heat dissipation at all. I used them because I could get the stiffness of a heavier barrel without the weight and....they look badass. My latest build is a 7saum on a stiller predator LA, manners mcs-t with spacers for 14.5" LOP, apa DBM, 26" Proof sendero with four port best brake. Rifle weighs 8.0 lbs on the nuts. Would have had to get real skinny on an all steel barrel to achieve this weight and wouldent have looked nearly as cool!

I don't want to provoke. I am interested in the thermal issue. I think it is pretty clear that the cf barrels are very well liked. I want one of my own.

In shooting this last rifle I paid attention to the heat. The only part of the barrel that got warm was the middle. Seems to me that if it was insulated then the ends of the barrel that are not insulated would show heat transfer and get warm. They did not.

I'll check that out in a minute, but I'm preparing to drool.

I'd love a 6.5 or 7 SS, but I don't yet reload (although Copper Creek would load for those), so 6.5 PRC.

So I think I'm weird... I must be in the minority that doesn't like the looks as much. But I'm having a hard time refuting an argument based on weight and stiffness.

And yours looks gorgeous, just for clarity's sake, carbon barrel and all. It just... works.

I appreciate that! It turned out just how I envisioned in my head and...it shoots as good as it looks...or better than it looks depending on your taste!
