wondering about 7mm amax on antelope

I strong recommend not using a target bullet on game. I personally, would never use an AMax on game, but that's just me.

I recommend the Berger VLD's if you're looking for solid performance.

I have tried vlds on rib cage shot pencil hole in-out. Not impressed, this was a big boar.

We shot two elk with 162 Amax's out of 7-300's this year and a antelope last year. I wouldn't worry about using a Amax.

BTW Berger bullets started as a target bullet. They found out they could be used on game so they re-labled them as "hunting" bullets. There was never a orange box or yellow box, they were all yellow. Now their target bullet is a heavier jacket and the old target bullets are the hunting bullets.

Funny, I had the same shot this past year at 225 yards with my 7mmRM and a 168 VLD moving @ 3,115 MV.... And it left a pencil in, and 3" bore-hole coming out..... If you don't ever hit anything solid, it's never gonna expand...No matter what bullet you're shooting.

I say give them another try.

Yeah I just might, I hate messing up shoulder meat

I shot one in the shoulder and she fell over dead in her tracks. It was a pin-hole in & out, and it hit nothing solid, but it popped the heart, so the bullet never expanded and saved all the meat.

But the one i was talking about leaving a 3" exit hole was a rib/lung shot. Saved all the meat there, too.

I try not to ever shoulder-shoot deer, unless I have no other choice.....It ruins too much meat, and I eat what I kill.

Ive used 140 amaxs on antelope with great results. I have never personally used the 162 amax but a guy I hunt with does and they work well.

The 162 amax sure wrecked this speedie's day...
I'm a fan of killing things with amax's

I shot my goat last year at 330 yards with my 284 win and 162 amaxs. Performed great, he stumbled about 15 yards and fell over, 1" exit. I will be using them agaim this fall for deer and goats.
