I posted earlier but I would like some opinions. I have an ar10 that i really like and i would love to kill an elk with it. Anybody on here a die hard 308 elk hunter. Is that enough gun to get it done. Don't want to hijack the post here so feel free to answer me in a pm or start a new thread with your answer and I'll jump in on there. I think withon 500yds it should have plenty of energy with something like a 180 accubond

Last year I hunted with my 300 Thunder Hawk which is a 408 Cheytac case shortened to the Same length as the 338 Norma case and necked down to 30 cal with in improved case and 40 degree shoulder. I was launching a 215grn bullet 3618 fps out of a 34 inch barrel. Unfortunately after 538 rounds my barrel was toast.

This year I'm going to hunt with my 50 bmg. I always wanted to shooting something with it besides steel. I trained all summer long shooting all the way out to 2000 yards. My back up gun is a 300 hulk. My buddy and I leave for Wyoming Oct 14 hunt 16-23 back home on the 24.

I use a 375 improved 300 gr. bullet at 3000 fps it's good to 600yds with no adjusting just pull up and shoot, if I want to go out to a 1000yds I have it adjust the scope. Anyway it just drops them in there tracks!

The same rifle I always take. My Model 70 Extreme Weather in 308 win.
I'm using Barnes 168 TTSX. I shot my bull this year at about 60 yards. That's about as far as I've ever shot an elk as I like to call them in close. In BC we get to rifle hunt elk during the rut...a big bonus!

This year I will be using my 340wby shooting the 225gr Barnes TTSX's. It's proven and it works. Backup is 270win.
