Weatherby's new 6.5 RPM cartridge

I don't know. I like Weatherbys, but I don't understand why they wouldn't have just chambered that model for 6.5 PRC while it's gaining popularity. They already have a great Weatherby cartridge in the 6.5-300.

I talked to Adam Weatherby yesterday and he said they wanted a standard bolt face cartridge to use in their 6 Lug Mark V action, I also asked if the had any plans to chamber either of the PRC cartridges and he said no not at this time.

Interesting, thanks for the additional info!

Weatherby will introduce the new 6.5 RPM in early September, designed for their 6 lug Mark V ultra lightweight rifle, No belt and no double radiused shoulder, Weatherby is stepping outside of the box !

Should be a great cartridge.......

Good old Weatherby...I guess I should have held off for a bit....lol...and I will have a couple of Creedmores for Sale

I can't blame him for saying "no" on the PRC's. The good ole 300 Wby is still a shade hotter than the 300PRC
I think this new 6.5 cartridge is a good move for Weatherby! If this is truly based off the 284 case then I suspect there will be a lot of 6.5 - 284 owners chasing down reamers for this one....

Well hopefully this design will help with barrel life too. Some of these new big 6.5s have HP but 4-600 rounds and barrels are toast!!!
Weatherby i see one of these in your future builds lol.

Yes you do.......I have an all Stainless 6 lug Mark V action waiting for this build, should make for an excellent hunting rifle.

Well, it certainly will be much better than the 260 Nosler and the 6.5-300-Wby! Those big boys need BMG powders to work. But let's not kid ourselves either.... It will be a little hard on the barrel life. I'm thinking 700 - 900 rounds. That is many years of hunting before a rebarrel job.

Too late in game with this one. I cant see it being a hit, I'm sure it will hunt well but not sale well.
I don't know about that....? The 264WM never really caught on like the 7mm Rem Mag did. So there was a huge gap between the 6.5 CM and the 260 Nosler. This fits in nicely between the two. Plus, if you have an old shot out 30-06 or 270 Win you are just a rebarrel away from capitalizing on all the great new 6.5 bullets that have come out these last few years.

The 7mm RM killed the 264WM because you could shoot 120g to 175g pills in the big 7. The 264 was limited to 140's. Makes me want to dig out my old 264 and load up some Retumbo or H1000 with these new sleek bullets.

I agree with most. I built a 6.5-06AI because I wanted something that could push a little faster than the PRC but be easier on barrels then the 26 Nosler or 6.5-300. I think this bridges that gap perfect. I hope it catches. It is a little weird seeing a WBY case without rounded shoulders though...

For a gun enthusiast it would be. But for general public buying off rack in mass, just don't see it. Hope it does well tho.

As for off the rack sales, if the rifles have the Mark V price it will sink. If it has the Vanguard price it will have a chance. Now in these times ammo availability will tell the tale also. Norma doesn't have the push of Hornady or Federal.
