We used to have a lot of turkeys in the small town of Summit (population 219) close to where we live (30 minutes away), and some even in our own neighborhood, and once in our yard. I took two in the first two years I lived here in Utah.

Turkeys became somewhat of a nuisance (for non-hunters) in the nearby town of Summit and the Department of Wildlife Resources (in their infinite wisdom) translocated them far away. I have rarely seen turkeys the last couple of years, to the extent that I have not hunted them in about six years.

This morning I was taking a walk about half a mile from our home and ran across a hen and a brood of chicks. It appears they're making a slow comeback.

A large acreage landowner near my ranch transplanted some to his place a few years back. There haven't been turkeys in this area (SE Tx) in my lifetime.
About a month ago i was stacking brush piles on my tractor and these 4 came by. Have been hearing them Ang getting glimpses in the last year or so. But first time this close.

EDIT: seems like the video won't load.
