Getting into reloading...have a 270win and a 30-06 on order. I have H4350, H4831SC, and Norma MRP on the way. I am wanting to try a few powders to see how things go during load development.

Is the above sufficient? If you were going to add one more powder, what would it be?

The 270 is a 22" barrel and the '06 is 24", to be used for hunting and range practice.

Those two Hodgdon powders are like bread and butter in an '06 case. Maybe Reloader 17 if your gun doesn't like one of those but I've never heard of a .270 that did not shine with H4831

I believe you could add RE 22 and IMR7828 to the list if you can get your hands on some.
Most reloading manuals will give information on these and other powders.

It looks like the Norma MRP is essentially RL22 but with better lot to lot consistency, so I think I am good from that standpoint.

I am guessing I am set for now, but wanted to know if there were any 'must haves' for those two.

I shoot 56.0grs of IMR 4831 in my Remington 700 .270 and push 140 SSTs just over 300fps with a 22" barrel. Chose IMR 4831 over Hodgdon because it burns a little faster and figured it would work better in that shorter barrel.

4350 for the 130-140 gr bullets.
4831 for the 150+ bullets.
4064 is also quite good with 140 gr bullets.
What you have is quite good.

06 with 150's for me is IMR 4350.
.270: IMR 4831 with 140 grain anythings. H 4831 as an alternate with the 140 load. For 150 grain Berger VLD hunting bullets I get outstanding accuracy and killing efficiency with Reloader 22. IMR 4831 just as accurate but lower MV. I no longer use 130 grain bullets as the 140's have nearly equaled their velocity (within 50 fps) and more lead at the same speed is always better in my book.

The powders that you have on the shelf are all real good choices. Personally, I prefer the SC version of H4831 FWIW it gets along well in my rifle with the 230g Berger OTM, "standard cut" is a compressed charge. SC is not. I also really like Norma URP in my rifle with Nosler 150g BT or even the Hornady 150 SST (different charge weights) right about at 3,000 fps (2,993 Nosler BT). It's similar to R-17 which I also utilize. IMO if you can get a load that shoots accurately in both it will likely be found with one of the 4831 powders, MRP may be a tad slow for 150g bullets from the .30/06. I'm not certain you will get a full burn in the barrel and velocity may suffer. YMMV. The expansion ratio of the .270 favors MRP (moreso with 140g bullets). In the end whatever shoots with the best accuracy at the best velocity should be where you settle. Have fun with it and be safe.

I always wanted to try as few powders as possible. I think you already have 1 too many on your list. The H4350 and H4831SC are the only ones I would want.

I'll usually try both a single base and a double base with a rifle to see if there are any preferences. Same with bullet makes; I'll try a couple of brands and weights at the start.
As to which powders to work with for both a '06 and 270, I'd say most of the choices mentioned would be good with 4064 being a tad fast for the 270 but fine in the '06 with light to mid weight pills. I'd personally stay to any of the 4350's or rl17 if I had to feed both an '06 and a 270 with one powder.

try, ramshot hunter powder. switched to it from h4350, use it in both 270 and 30-06. great velocity and little temp changes. like it so much bought a eight pound keg. ramshot powder is all I use pretty much, more people need to check it out, it's a good line of powder.
