Got my eyes on another old BRNO bolt gun in 8mm mauser on auction but don't care what cartridge you shoot, 8mm mauser, 8-06, 325 wsm, 8mm rem mag….

These aren't very common at all as the 30 cal is so close and so popular BUT it seems like there is a certain X factor to the 8mms, don't know what it is…and now I want this old 8x57 and just figured I'd open up dialogue.

Any 8mm-anything shooters on here? What do you like or dislike about the caliber? Advantages or disadvantages Compared to 30 cal?

What projectiles in this diameter stand out as winners or favourites to you?

We are a fan of the 325wsm. Would discuss more but Cassie jumped our new laptop and cracked the mother board so working off my phone until we buy a new laptop and I can type. Also have 8mm Mauser. Think that the 325wsm shines being a short mag and shooting 180, 200, and 220gr bullets. Jill and I have harvested Deer, Moose, Zebra, Kudu, Gemsbuck, Wildebeest with one shot out to 400yds.

8mm rem mag !!! One of the best if you could only have one cartridges ever !! Typical "biggreen", sabotaged their own cartridge with junk bullets .... with the proper bullet it'll handle anything on the planet..
Ah yes they really have a knack for shooting themselves in the foot (hopefully not literally)

Let's design the perfect 6mm deer hunting cartridge but only stabilize varmint bullets. And call it twomdifffernt names

Let's design an admittedly superior answer to the 270, the 280 rem, but then load it weak and put it in a freaking auto loader! And again, call it two different names!!!

Let's design the 7mm rem mag to be significantly weaker than the mashburn it was inspired by and then give it a short throat and a low saami pressure so that a freaking .270 is right on its heels, rendering it kind of redundant.

Let's make a 6.5 creed years before the 6.5 creed (260 rem) and then just sit on it and in no way promote or support it or even mention the thing.

Let's design short mags that have less oal issues than the wsm series but again just be so late to the party it don't matter.

They have good ideas and horrible execution.

Best things they've done is legitimized wildcats. The .22-250, .25-06, and 7stw could well be their greatest cartridges. And the RUMs

I hunt with a 8mm Coyle. It's about like a 7 Weatherby with the belt turned off and necked up to 8mm. With the 24" barrel it produces 3,054 fps with Hammer Hunters 198 grain bullets. Those are what I used for the last few years. Just for a change I bought some Shock Hammer 181 grainers the other day. I'm hoping for 3,250 fps.

What on earth??????

Does it have the double radius shoulder? Any headspace issues without that belt if it does have the curvy shoulder? Very interesting….

Have a Model 700 Classic in 8mm Remington Magnum. Shoots the 200 Grain TSX into 5/8" consistently at 100 yards. 3150 FPS with discontinued Accurate XMR 3100….
Would probably be one of the last rifles I have that I would part with….

The only thing I've ever shot with it was a cow bison, but man, DRT. I SHOULD be using it for a lot of my elk hunting but it's in a Stocky's laminated stock and weighs about 1.5-2.5 LB more than some others that I carry a lot…
I probably wouldn't part with it just for nostalgic reasons and that cartridge just oozes FAST & SEXY

I have about 150 rounds loaded and about 1.5 pounds of 3100 left so likely will last me forever but will keep that in mind…..
I really wanted to shoot the 200 grain Accubond but it just could not touch the TSX's in the accuracy department….

I have had a couple 325 WSM's that were great rifles but moved on from them…..
IMHO Real world velocity difference in them and the "Big 8" using like bullets is at least 150 FPS….maybe a bit more

Also as I get older and with a 65% rotator tear in my shooting side shoulder, I have gravitated to rifles with muzzlebrakes and smaller calibers with less recoil.
For the performance you get, the 8 mag is actually pretty tame on the recoil side but nothing I want to go and shoot 20-30 rounds a day anymore either

I used the 200 partitions. 1/4 to 1/2" groups. Shot few elk with that. I've got a Remington 700 BDL never had a scope mounted on it. Bought from a guy who shot it 12 times with factory ammo. Like new

definately the 8mm Rem Mag !
Peterson makes 300 WBY brass that I'll be popping into 8mm RM

AND they just announced they're making 340 Weatherby brass too, yaaas
