Has anyone a decent moose hunting load/bullet for a 7600 carbine in 30-06? I have found only one factory load to shoot well but I don't care for the bullet on moose sized animals (Hornady Superformance SST 165 gr.).... Many other factory loads are not liked by this finnicky rifle...

I do have LIMITED access to reloading equipment (a friend's father).... If I could shoot a good moose load and bullet with confidence, I'd attempt reloads.... If anyone is willing to share, It would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks...

The 180 corelok round nose. The 180 trophy bonded tip is a 180gn at 2880fps(advertised you should see 2650+fps) You not looking for a 1 hole load in that rifle. Even though it can do it the goal is to penetrate and transfer as much energy as you can. That would be the load if your buying ammo. I hunt with the same rifle when we have snow.

I have a friend that shoots the 165 SST bullet from a 300WSM and has shot several elk at 300 yds + and has yet to loose an animal and also has never recovered a bullet from one. I would be more concerned with proper shot placement and less about how well the bullet will perform. Steve, my friend, was hesitant to use this bullet on elk and was very surprised by the pass through penetration. He swears by the SST now.

BTW, they are extremely accurate from his Browning A-bolt, as I have witnessed some long shots with this bullet and rifle at targets.

My carbine has only seen factory ammo. It really seems to prefer 150 grain bullets. I used Rem corelok 150 grn in it for a long time. It does prett well with those. Longest kill with it was 300 yards. Deer didn't take a step. I'm not sure how the 150 does on animals that size but the rifle liked that load.

I have never shot the 150 grain Corelokt bullet, I have shot some of the 180 grain and really like them. However, I have shot a lot of the Hornady 150 grain Interlock bullets, which are very similar to the Corelokt , and the longest shot on a whitetail deer with that bullet was 700+ yds. The bullet did not exit the deer but it did it's job quite well, and the deer was DRT. The problem with a lighter weight bullet on large animals is they don't penetrate large bones well. That is why I mentioned shot placement previously in the thread. A light for caliber bullet will kill if it punches through the rib cage at a path more perpendicular to the animal.

I am surprised your 06 doesn't shoot 180 grain Corelokt bullets. That was my factory load of choice in model 700 30/06 before I started hand loading. When I bought that rifle (my first new rifle) I bought a couple of boxes of Rem 180 Corelokts and sighted it in at piece of junk iron at the end of a friends field off-hand at 240 paced yards, and it put 5 of them into a group smaller than a tea cup. But I done got old and don't shoot that precise off-hand anymore.

In Rem 760 or 7600 I have very good results with IMR 4350 @ 56.0 with 180 Nosler Part.....in WW brass with Fed 210M primers........a proven 30-06 load for many years for Moose
