Structured barrels

Anyone use the tacomHQ structured barrels? If so, do they perform as advertised? I know they're a pretty new deal (and pretty spendy) but man I am intrigued. Only downside seems to be that even the minimum barrel diameter severely limits your ability to put one in a conventional stock.
 
I just heard about them from my smith, he is saying they are becoming a thing in the competition world.
 
I haven't read their patent, but if you look at their design, much of the principle is valid : much stiffer barrel, better heat dissipation.
A comparative example would be hex cell aluminum panels vs plywood or the phalanx wrong word fasces handle.
However, I had to hold my nose at marketing buzzwords and wanted to vomit at the claim of "no load development."

I was wondering when the word was going to come over to here. I have my eye on these for my next build, looking at the AR10 platform for a change of pace.
 
It's certainly an interesting cncept. Physics seem sound. Most truly good concepts come from the competitive arenas. Time will tell if it transfers to the hunting world.
 
Holy cow, their website is a tour de force of marketing hoop-a-la with hardly any technical information.

  • As one hole bends, one side of it undergoes tension and the other compression
  • - This triggers the hole opposite of it in the pattern, to undergo compression and tension, 180 degrees out of sync
  • - Opposing force vectors cancel out
This is just describing the bending forces of a member supported at one end. Mechanical engineering 101 - nothing new, here, and no apparent difference from a traditional solid barrel.

If drilling out the walls of a barrel really provide enhanced accuracy, why isn't tacomHQ showing some actual results or some real structural analysis? I am not saying it can't work. Just spare me the vacuous hype and give me some real info. This is sounding gimmicky, to me.

Glad to see that someone is thinking outside of the box, But I think I will pass for many reasons and just wait and see. The barrels we have today are already better than most shooters if placed in the right configuration and fed good ammo. Many rifles will achieve 1/2 MOA before work up, some will do it while fire forming.

I have seen these miracle products come and go and found that waiting was the best, cheapest and least trouble and working on 'my' shooting provided better results. :)
