Sightron SIII vs Zeiss HD5?

Did a quick search and didn't see where this had been beat to death yet. I am just about ready to buy a SIII 6-24X50 moa. I thought I would see if this is still considered the "best bang for the buck", or has the new HD5 taken that spot? This scope will go on a 6.5x284 as a do it all hunting rifle. Thanks

In that price range, don't forget the Vortex Viper PST 6-24x50. I have been looking through them and at them at the local stores and range. I'm really temped to try one bad.

I love my Zeiss scopes. Got 2 of them. The 3-12x56 (30mm) and 6.5-20x50. Both Conquests. They are incredible scopes, regardless of price, but especially for the money.

And until today I was loving my Konus M-30, which, it's not entirely its fault, I put a 20MOA base on it, and it doesn't have enough upward travel to allow me to 0 out at 100 yards. I have been dealing with it for a year or so now, but it really frustrated me today, to the point I have debated on selling it, or getting a 0-MOA base. I have to shoot 4 Mils low to hit bullseye @ 100 with my 168gr load. The bottom of the top crosshair (next Mil up, but not a dot) for my 175's, and shooting my 210gr Bergers on the 175 Mil, i'm still about 2" high. I'm about ready to buy a 0 MOA base so I can actually 0-out @ 100, but that will probably hinder my 1000 yard shooting.

I would love the vortex PST, but I keep reading about "sub-par glass" in them. I have PM'ed quite a few people about them and it seems they have a lot of floating trash inside them and although vortex takes care of you, what a pain having to have it dealt with. The other thing that bothers me is all the threads I have read about the scope glass being almost useless in the high magnification range. Its a shame that vortex cant figure out that if they would put GOOD glass in this scope, they would have the best scope out there for the money. I don't mean glass like they razor, but glass about like what sightron sIII has. I would love to have the PST with SIII grade glass.
Right now the PST still leaving people with possibly better options, like the HD5 or maybe the SIII. If the PST had better equal glass to those scopes, the answer would be a no brainer if you ask me. Again, just my opinion. I was just hoping to hear from people that have had time to play with the HD5, because I know it hasn't been out that long.

I think it really depends on how you want to use this scope. If you want to use a ballistic holdover reticle the HD5 might be the way to go. If you are using your turret for holdover go with the SIII.

The HD5 is a 1 inch tube with less internal adjustment than the 30mm SIII.

I have the SIII you speak of and love it. I also have a PST and it is a good scope, but I prefer the Sightron.

I have not had a chance to look through a HD5 yet, but the regular conquest line always impressed me. If I got one of these I would get the RZ-800 reticle and use it for quick holdovers. Check out their website to see how your 6.5x284 loads work out on their Ballistic reticle calculator.

I am not a Vortex owner, and was never a fan, b/c I had heard the same rumors.....But every single Vortex that I've looked through were incredibly clear! Mainly for that reason, and the cheap custom turrets is why I have been eye-balling one.

You need to do some in depth research if you are thinking about the HD5. With the zero stop in place and set at your zero you will only have 16.5 of up travel. If you need more then that you will have to remove the zero stop.

Roger that!!
My belief is that considering how flat shooting the 6.5X284 is, if I zero at 200, I should get out there farther that I will probably ever feel safe shooting at an animal anyways. Im still a noob, so I am VERY cautious about shooting beyond my comfortable distance. Right now I am leaning towards the SIII, because most people that have them seem very pleased.

Now the BIG QUESTION.....Who sells the Sightron SIII the cheapest????
Anyone have a great source to share? If so, please PM me. Thanks

Don't cut yourself short, what happens is you shoot a few hundred yards beyond what your hunting max is, for a 1000 yard rifle I shoot every week end out to 1400 yards, the 16 moa only with a zero stop is inadequate for anything IMO though if you bottom out the HD5 with a rail and left the zero stop of you'd be GTG as well.

We've been getting the SIII from Shoot-long, you'll have bonus MOA with the SIII, really like them for shooting looooong!

Didn't even know about shoot-long. THANK YOU!!! I appreciate the heads up.
Now I just need to pick out a set of rings and base. It will be going on a savage predator hunter in 6.5x284. Thanks

Just got a savage predator hunter max1 6.5x284. I used an egw 20moa base and burris signature zee rings. I have had great luck with both.

Thanks again bud, may I ask where you got them? That's all I need to put my little beauty together.
