Rem 700 ADL 22-250 twist rate

so i just bought a rem 700 adl rifle scope combo from cabelas in 22-250 i just wanted a cheap varmint rifle and a low recoil target gun. i would like to shoot out to 500 yards ive been shooting hornady 50gr vmax super performance 4000 fps rounds my question is what is my twist rate and what is the optimal round for my rifle and twist rate for long range target shooting?

assum ing you do not reload. various loads of either 50 or 55 grain are your best bet. finding that can be expensive trying 5 or 10 different factory ammo. i can tell you out of 6 remington 700's they ALL shot 50 balistic tips and 35.5 of benchmark into 5 inch groups at 500 yards. problem is more with the wind and the low bc.

It is probably 1 in 14 and bullets under 55 grains would be my choice.

For accuracy Mine liked the 52 grain HP Match. For deer I used 55 grain spritzer boat tails.

For Varmints I liked the 40 grain Ballistic tips.

They make 30 and 35 grain bullets and the 22 250 should realy move them.

jstuck- i have seen where the savage lrpv 9 twist 22-250 has won some 600 yard matches; with the heavier .22 caliber bullets. in is higher priced than yours. your 22-250 does not have that twist. and 60 grain balisitic tip or sp are not much higher bc than the 50-55. and they may or may not shoot as good. since the 22-250 is not a heavy recoiling round it is more plesant trying the various loads looking for a good one. a good trigger helps me a lot. hopefully you adjusted yours. roninflag

Jstruck, I'm pretty sure it is a 1-14 twist as was mentioned. Winchester makes a 45 grain HP that is advertised to be at 4000 fps. I have not chronoed them, but they are surprisingly accurate in my gun which is similar to yours, except mine is a BDL configuration.
I shot a chipmunk at OVER 200 yards, and all I saw was red mist. Wal Mart sells them. The brass is decent too. Again, a surprise! These are in a 40 round box.

I have an older M700 ADL and it has a 1 in 14 twist. It loves any 52 or 53 gn projectile, shooting all in the.1/2 to 3/4 inch range. It tolerates 55gners, with inch or more groups. With 60s or bigger it sprays all over the target, so I limit the rifle to that range of projectiles, and have shot rabbits at 400 meters, and fallow and sika deer up to 200 meters, all dispatched with authority.

I've bought the win 45 grain factories for my striker pistol in 22-250. They will hold moa for 5 shots and do 3500 fps out of a 14" barrel. No recoil either.
