Reloading 280 AI which powder for 168 grain bullet

I have one that uses N560 and another that uses Retumbo. Retumbo produces a little more velocity with a lot less felt recoil.

On top of what others have mentioned, I've had very good results with RL26 as well with heavier bullets in my 280AI's. Lighter bullets my go to is a full case of H4831. Haven't toyed with H1000, but seeing it on shelves again lately makes me want to.

I have seen where people have ised RL 17 but I have not tried it. I have also read where folks have had good results with H1000.

Rl 26
H4831
IMR 7828 ssc
These would be my top three choices.
7828 is what I settled on for my 168 VLDH loads.

RL23
H1000
H4831SC

My go-to in order for the .280AI for 160 and up bullets.
My specific loads for 168g Berger VLD (Nosler brass, F210), 24" Bartlein barrel.
* RL23 58.7g, 2970fps
* H4831sc 59.2g, 2828fps (mild load and a lot of room to increase powder charge but this was my accuracy node).

Like others have stated, H4831 is the standard powder and you'll never go wrong with it, while RL23 will give you more velocity as well as good accuracy.
If you don't have those, something in the H4831 burn rate will work.
You'll end up around 2950-3000 fps with your bullet.

I've tried RL23 andd 4831sc. I couldn't get my es and sd where I wanted it with RL23. I may revisit it as it seems to be the preferred powder. However 4831sc works great for me.
