Getting ready to try the 168 LRAB in my 280 AI ..Cant decide what powder to run trying to stay away from Alliant...So I've narrowed it down to H4831SC, Retumbo, VVN165 and 7828SSC....what would you guy's do ?

My top 3 choices would be Imr4350, RL17, and H4350. On the slower side of things I would go Imr4831, H4831sc, and Alliant PP4000MR. With 7828 I can't see you being able to get enough in the case. H1000 and Retumbo are way to slow, that's about like using US869 in a 300wm.

What kind of velocities are you getting out of the 168 bergers ?

I am getting just north of 2825 at the load that showed best accuracy. I was up over 2900 when pressure testing to book max, but accuracy was better (and I always feel better) dropping down a bit. 24" bbl.

If you are running a 26" tube or longer, give the slower powders a try. My experiences are that using 7828ssc, h1000, retumbo and the like are NOT to slow and actually can increase velocity with the longer tubes.

Im running 7828ssc pushing a 150 scirocco at about 3040 and this is not a max load. Lots of room left in the case.

I'm running a 26'' Brux...I was hoping to get 2900 with the 168 LRAB..I know some people are having good luck with Retumbo and the 168s and also 7828ssc...
