For all you 270 lovers.

UPS brought me this yesterday.

The case on the left is a WSM and the one on the right is a Rum. The one in the middle will be a 270 Montana :)

I like it! But I'd like it better were it a .284 bore... You can call it the ".284 Bama", after your old buddy here... LOL

That should be your next one Mark. :D

The 300 Dakota has a little more capacity than the 7 Dakota. Some have done the 7/300 Dakota. It would be equal to or maybe slightly larger than the 7 STW.

My idea for the 7 is a Lapua case. Same as a 7 RUM but better brass and a shorter case. This is only if nitriding proves good for extending barrel life. I'll be finding that out soon.... in the next few months.

Looks like a little round I call a 270 AX. Except its based on a 300 Dakota instead of the 7mm Dakota.

Its a great round, basically the same performance as a 270 STW but with shorter OAL which works better in some standard length magazine boxes.

Only drawback is bullet selection. Berger needs to get that 170 gr out!!! Matrix bullets would be a great choice for this velocity range as well.

Kirby.

The 270 Montana is based of the 300 Dakota, similar to your AX, but I think a little less case capacity. I bumped the shoulder back abut .008 and decreased the diameter about .003 with close to the same taper. I'm going with a 40* shoulder and hoping to get a .330 long neck to ease the throat wear. The reason I decreased the case capacity was that the factory brass was a few thou smaller than the Dakota specs. I think this will help with case strength and life and it will need minimal fire forming after the initial sizing. I'm hoping that I can do load development and fire forming at the same time.

Matrix has a 170 gr bullet and CEB has a 165 gr bullet. Hopefully Berger will come online with a good heavy hybrid but I'm not holding my breath.

you guys are making me think ".270"!
awesome looking case!

Its all the new rage!:D
With a variety of bullets coming out for it, folks are recognizing the true potential of the 270. History passed it over the first time, but its Finally being seen in a new light.gun)
