How far would you shoot for clean kill on a deer with 30-06 168 Berger vld 2880 fps shoot a 13inch group at 800 yards consistently has around 1000 pps left at 800 yards
All conditions good

LOL, that was great.50 Yds below the road & 600 Yds above the road!
Left to right broad side a WT has about 24-30" of vitals from the back end of the lungs to the mid neck and 18" from the top of the withers to bottom of he brisket.350 yards MAX, 13" at 800 yards is approx 1.75 MOA.
1.75 MOA at 350 yards is about 6", assuming you can get your first shot within .5 MOA of your POA that is a total of 12" error, approx the same size as a whitetails vitals.
Not really. 2moa at 600yds is 12", 14 at 700 and about 141/2 at 750.so that moves it out to around 450-475 yards using the same system as below to meet the 18" from back to brisket.
Shooter Error plus Low BC light weight thirty cal can easily account for most of that. Not 800. Why 13" groups at 800? I'm sure you can do better with some adjustments. Not bashing you or shooting but 1.5+MOA isnt something you have to live with nowadays. A lot of factory guns and premium ammo can do better. I like to be able to do better than that before I pull a trigger. I would figure out what I had to do to bring that down to at least 1MOA and then shoot 800. The bullet has the ooomph, it just needs to hit the spot. Missing an aiming point on a deer by 6.5" is too much. 6.5 can turn into 18 real quick.
Not bashing you at all I just know that you can do better. That would be a better thought than if its good to 800. Is your gun 1.5 MOA at all ranges or just waaay out there?
A pretty well respected gun writer once said "Only accurrate rifles are interesting".
So what is the except able group at 800 with out trying to hard it shoots under 1/2 all day at 100 yards. It's got a costum barrel pillar and glass beded fine tuned by a gunsmith. Thought .4 would be ok for high powered gun or do I need to go back to drawing board
