I'm shooting a Ruger Predator in 6.5 CM with a new Gemtech Tracker supressor I just got. Using factory Hornady 143 gr Eldx Precision Hunter ammo, I'm experiencing heavy/sticky bolt lift.

The question is, other than the annoyance of a sticky bolt, is there anything dangerous about this? Or will it cause damage to the rifle? It does it with Hornady Superformance 120gr GMX, too.

I went ahead and took the rifle elk hunting this last week. I ended up tagging a funky antlered bull at 200 yards. I hit him right in the boiler room. He shuttered and wheeled around the opposite way but only went about 25 yards before dropping.

I have to ask, really is a sticky bolt normal operation?
You need to find the cause, and alleviate it. Who cares about the rifle, you are a diff story. Either figure it out or try different ammo. Bolt lift is stiff for some reason.
    Congrats on your bull.

Probably too hot of loads to get that sticky bolt...suppressor is obviously gonna make more back pressure.....
Now that bull is a trophy....
Only two ways for a pedicle to end up like that...
One raking or fighting...breaking the pedicle...
Second is genetics....born with it.....nice cull to the herd...but man imagine what a bull a couple years later would look like....might be a semi-unicorn......
    Congrats...

    Congrats on a nice bull!

Have you only tried these two types of ammo?

Sticky bolt usually means high pressure, or a really really really dirty chamber. Factory ammo causing pressure is not common but it does happen.

Superformance is a little on the hot side, the Precision Hunter I have not tried so no idea on that.

I would clean the chamber first and then try the same ammo, if still sticky try a different brand, if the problem persists then contact Ruger.

I tried some Hornady 129gr Whitetail ammo and it didn't seem to have this problem.

I'll probably contact the supressor manufacturer, too, and see what they say. I wouldn't have thought factory ammo would cause this, either.

Carbon ring could be the culprit. If you haven’t already, might try cleaning your bore with Boretech C4 bore cleaner and an oversized nylon brush.

Does it only stick with the suppressor in use?

Good luck getting any assistance from Gemtech , since they were bought out a while back they've been rapidly heading downhill both in quality and customer service.

Was about to ask the same thing. The OP never really mentioned it.

Well the 120gr gmx is a obviously over pressure round. Hornady In fact changed the load from 4350 to varget after having over pressure issues on many occasions.
I’ve never had any issue with more pressure with a can on.
Like others have said clean it good as they seen to make things more dirty.

No, it didn't have heavy bolt lift before using the can. I'll clean the chamber and bore real good and go from there.
