Handloading: How Many ?

Ever so often, we ask readers how many cartridges do you load for, and since we have several new members since the last time I saw it asked, how many do you load for and are you adding or decreasing numbers? Anything very unusual, very rare or of other interests?

Just what I need for hunting season plus about 3500 .223's for that 'just in case scenario' Mixed 223 rounds, some HP's some LAP some SP's.

I never load any more hunting rounds than what I require for a season + 10.

I have the "fixins" to load for 15 different cartridges but currently I'm loading for 4. Mostly to create ammo for practice.

Practice for me is zeroing in and thats it. I'm quite comfortable with my gins and know what to expect so I don't waste rounds just for the hell of it.

Too many to count. 32acp, 9mm 10mm, 38special, 357mag, 44mag, 45 acp, 223rem
22-250, 6.5 creedmoor, 7X57, 270win, 7mm rem mag, 30-30, 308, 30-06, 300win mag, 303 British, 338 win mag, 35 rem, 45-70.
Load pretty continuous for all of them.

5.56 in two different AR-15s with the Wylde chambering
All can shoot 3/4" or less at 100 yards. A few can cut ragged holes!
That's what I love about reloading....the challenge of finding the magical load for that particular firearm!!

I load for 9 different cartridges. I have non long range rifles that I don't reload for and use factory ammo. I used to enjoy reloading more but as I have less free time, it has become a necessity for accuracy more than just for fun. So ultra fine tweaking of brass that takes forever is going away for me. I want to buy the best available brass, and choose a cartridge thats non finicky and known for wide nodes. My three must have caliber picks are 7mm, 30 cal and 6.5 mm and in that order. I do just a limited amount of varmint hunting.

I'm not sure how people can afford factory ammo, if you shoot 300 + rounds a year (unless it's a 22lr).
Outside of the satisfaction and accuracy aspect, the economics are a huge positive.
Just look at a decent box of 300 wm ammo (about $3 per shot). My cost is less than a $1 per round when produced on my reloading bench.

My son has begun collecting some turn of the century semiauto long arms. So I'll begin loading two new (for me) but very old calibers.
