First custom: machining everything myself

i want to watch. i wish i had access to some nice machinery like that! i'd love to do a custom R700 action build and a custom set of billet upper/lower AR receivers. all i have is an old benchtop mill that needs some work.

So I stopped in at BAT Machine on Thursday and was able to get all my questions asked by the guys over there.

I got the bolt finish turned, to .004 undersized, and also got the raceway wired so the receiver is ready for mill work also.

What a great project! Hat's off to ya for developing those technical skills.

Please do continue with posting progress pics

In another life i woulda pursued machine work....love the precision and required attention to detail.

Well there are quite a few people following the thread now, can
I ask a favor?

Throw out some cerakote recommendations! I plan on coarse bead blasting everything then doing cerakote, and I'm willing to buy whatever colors and try whatever patterns. Let's make it interesting! Not looking for flashy but unique would be cool. I can also cerakote the stock once I pick one up so keep that in mind.

Sinker EDM. If I didn't have that ability I would have to write the g code for some sort of cycle to just scrape them with a form tool. But I'm lucky and just have to design and machine an electrode and burn them.
