Favorite gun and cartridge for hogs?

I have a similar set up. Have you tried shooting suppressed sub sonic? wondering how they respond when their buddies start going down.
The hornady sub-x is all I use in my blackout anymore. 8.5" SBR TBAC suppressor. Took two 60 pounders at 100 this past season to see how it would perform. We went on to take a Whitetail doe and a black buck at 120 later in the year. All heart/lung and DRT except one of the pigs that made it to the edge of the worn ground around the feeder. Happy with the performance but it's more of a novelty for me. If we're hunting the draws from the Mesa tops my favorite hog medicine is suppressed 300 wm with 200gr ELDX. If we are stalking up on stock tanks and jump shooting herds I use 10.5" 6.5 Grendel 123 gr sst these days. That being said I have killed more hogs with a 7.62x39 than anything else. Back in the college days we'd give'em hell with SKS's and the cheapest soft nose ammo we could find at academy. They ran pretty reliably if we only put 20 rounds in the magazine ‍♂️. We certainly ate well!

A buddy and I try to help some local farmers and keep the pigs off their place. We have shot them with just about everything. When we get into the big herds the 5.56 ar works best for us. 70gr Barnes x or that 65gr game king and they go down pretty fast.

What is your favorite rifle and cartridge (including bullet, weight and type) for hog hunting?

I tried looking through the older posts but didn't see this asked or really answered in the different threads.
We've got 300lb Russian boars here in upstate SC. I hunt at night with thermal ATN. I use 6.5 Creedmoor with 22 inch barrel, with 140 gr Swift A-frame running at 2600 FPS with H4350 or RL 17. Neck or shoulder shots at 150 yds is a bang/flop every time. Never recovered a bullet.

Like all hunting situations, it depends on the type of hunting you are doing what weapon or caliber is practical - long range, close heavy brush, stand hunting, hunting farm fields, whatever. It is all situational. Shoot what you got, what is appropriate for the area and style, and (Most Important) what you are comfortable with.

I've killed hogs with 17gr vmax 17hmr shot behind the shoulder (drt) and plenty with 22lr. Those were bc it's what was in my hands when they stepped out.

I've killed most (100+) with .223 70gr ttsx in a 14.5" AR with aimpoint micro. It's my go to setup and what I usually have in hand when out and about on my place.

My newest setup is a suppressed 6.5 Grendel SBR running a 1-8 lpvo or aimpoint micro depending on setting. The Grendel is good medicine for deer and hogs.

I've killed lots of hogs with a 223 Rem and 77gr SMKs running around 2,730 fps from various AR-15s and a couple of bolt guns. Head shots only with the 223 Rems.

Killed a few with my push feed Winchester M70 Featherweight 243 Win and 100gr CoreLokt. Killed a few with my bolt action 308s; Remington 700s and one 788, shooting 180gr CoreLokt. Killed some with various bolt actions in 7mm-08 with 162gr Amax, 7mm Rem Mag with 168gr VLD, 300 Win Mag with 180gr in Barnes TSX, TTSX and Rem CoreLokt, 215gr and 230gr Berger Hybrids but, by far killed the most with my favorites; Winchester M70 Classic 30-06, several of my Remington 700 30-06s and a Remington 7600 pump. In 30-06 I used FGMM 168gr SMKs, Remington 180gr CoreLokt, Barnes 180gr TTSX, Berger 215gr Hybrids and Hornady 212gr ELD-X.

I've killed a couple with my Winchester M70 Classic 375 H&H Mag but, don't remember if I used the Barnes 300gr TSX or the 350gr TSX. I've used 270 Win, 25-06, 6mm Rem, 30-30 and 35 Rem as well.

There were other rifles and cartridges I've used over the years, even killed a fair number with 12ga slugs and various sizes of buckshot... just can't remember them all.

Maaaaan!! You've killed more pigs than I've eaten in bacon or other pork products. Yeah, not the same-same but you catch my drift.
Based on just the little I've read here in the subject, it would surely seem that there is an overabundance of porkers ransacking parts of the country and those areas are in need of serious culling of those critters.
If I may ask, and mainly my question is aimed at (no pun intended) the more prolific hog hunters out there, but WTH are you doing with all those animals?!? Do you actually harvest them for personal use or donate them to various charities or......?
I'm NOT being judgmental, trust me. I'm honestly JEALOUS that you lucky SOB's get to hunt that many animals.
I'm no longer able to hunt myself, short of exterminating prairie dog towns from one place due to physical limitations and disabilities from the military, but, BOY HOWDY! I'd sure like to help some rancher or farmer with their eradication needs.
Yeah, color me jealous, Fellers.

I have killed a fair number with .223 ARs with no issue (children still use theirs when they come). My go to for the last several years is a 7.62 AR though, I've used a lot of M80 but I reload 168's for the same or cheaper so use those most of the time.

I take headshots whenever possible because I'm feeding a family of six but on occasion they are moving and this is the typical recovery from body shots and 168s (two separate animals), never lost one that I've hit. I usually have complete penetration with some of the bullet but obviously match bullets are going to come apart fast so there is a shrapnel trail through the cavity.

I've done eradication hunts and a heli hunt (which everyone needs to do at least once) but we eat any I harvest outside of that usually half a dozen or more per year. They are vermin that need to be destroyed...but they are also quite tasty.
