Not long range to us but, it might be for my daughter, Joelie.

I used several people to help me get the rifle fit right for my 3yr old daughter as soon as she expressed interest in hunting larger game. She has been shooting a custom 22 for a while and said she wanted to shoot a deer.

Well, several months ago I built the rifle and sent it to Shawn Carlock for a muzzle brake. Shawn then helped me work a special 223 load that generates decent velocity with ZERO recoil with is brake!

She has over 500 rds down the tube and I finally got her on a doe. It was only 47 yards but, she made a perfect shot and the doe went 20 yards and piled up. She is shooting a 55gr ballistic tip at 1800fps and it performed flawlessly and exited the doe.

Also for those that ask, she will be 4 in March so she is 3yrs and 9 months old!

Thanks Shawn!!!

I've got three daughters, between 5 and 7, and I'm just starting to teach them shooting. This is fantastic!! Gives me a whole pile of inspiration.

Congratulations to you and Joelie. That is a great pic!

That is fantastic. My daughter is 4 and 5 this coming september and I have just started her on an air rifle but for a little girl at 3 and 9 months to take her first deer - that is a fantastic achievement for both father and daughter. Well done

Q,

Glad to be of help on the project. I think that is just outstanding! The only problem I see here is it appears quite obvious that when she is older your going to have to keep a big stick near to run off all of the boys.

Two things are exceptionally cool about this hunt. One is being there to assist your deer with her first deer. (Great photo too, by the way.) Two, I find it especially neat that you can let your child hunt at such a young age. What I wouldn't give to be able to let my kids hunt when I felt they were ready rather than the state mandated age of 12. My 10 year old daughter is my favorite hunting partner. She can out shoot all her brothers and a fair number of adults I know. She loves to hunt and be outdoors. It drives us both crazy that she still has to wait two years to hunt deer. Pretty much every week she gives me a count down until she's 12. Right now the count is 1 year, 2 months, and 3 weeks. Yeah, I'd say she's anxious. All that aside I think it's fantastic that you and your daughter were able to successfully get her first deer. Great job to both of you!

That is awesome! My daugher is two years old and my wife and I take her out to the range when ever possible. I have been looking at one of those cricket 22 single shot rifles to start her out with, I am just waiting for to show the ability to safely hold the rifle up where I do not think it will be dangerous.

Congradulation.

223's aren't legal for big game. the smallest legal cal is a 243.

With respect, do you know where Qzilla and his daughter were hunting? If not, how could you possibly know what the laws are there?

That's got to be some kind of record! Youngest girl I've heard of taking a deer. You have your hands full and she's a cutie... Looks like that's somewhere in southtexas?

Hey, 47yds is long range when you are looking through those little eyes at your first deer..... Awesome!!
