Colordo elk hunt cartridge selection for .300 win mag

I'm planning on an Elk hunt in Colorado this fall, this will be a first for me. My question is what factory load would you recommend and for those that reload what would you recommend. I have reloaded for years but am new to the .300 win mag.

Earlier this year I took some plains game in Africa with factory Hornady superformance 180 grain GMX bullets in my Remington .300 win mag. Most of the game were from 250 to 350 yard shots, to include a blue wildebeest at 350 yard. 6 out of 7 were one shot kills, I take the blame for the one that I had to do a follow up shot on.

I can shoot on the farm out to 600 yards but that is about the limit I have. Because of this I think I should try and limit my shots to that or hopefully less. thoughts?

my browning a bolt in 300 win mag loves 210 gr. bergers being pushed by 75.5 gr. of h1000. they move out at 2860fps. not smoldering hot but for a 210 fast enough. but the bullet in the bulls lungs and heart and he will not survive, good luck

In Factory Ammo the Nosler 190 ALRB or the Applied Ballistics 215 Berger.
If I didn't reload, or if what I wanted was out of stock, I'd have one of the custom reloads such as Hammer.

If I were you and because you are limiting your shots to 600 or less I would use the Hornady GMX load you were already shooting. If you are satisfied with the accuracy then go with it. I would not use a non bonded or non copper bullet on an elk at shorter ranges. I know many will disagree but that's my advice. Good luck

eye, just finished testing powder/bullet test for a friend's 300 Win Remington 700 26" stainless. We tried 212 ELDX, 210 Berger VLD and the 215 Berger with H1000 and Retumbo. The 215 Berger with H1000 was very accurate and will get some subtle seating and charge tweaks. Can't comment on factory ammunition, I've never tried any.

Look at the 215 berger with 76-78 gr of h1000. Insanely accurate and hits like a sledgehammer. I prefer to roll my own because the load is a perfect for my gun.
H4831 is a great powder for the bullet too, but h1000 gave me another 150 fps.
