Building a 250 A.I.

I am going to hav a 250AI built on my wifes savage 10.The gun will be used by my wife and daughters for deer,antelope and prarie dogs.What barrel lenght do you all recomend ?I want the gun light enough for the girls to handle but not extremely light,.What contour would be the next smallest from a factory varmint ? Would you use a douglas or pac-nor? I like option of matte stainless on the douglas. Who would you use to square and true the action? I have a buddy who can put the barrel on for me,but he doesn't have the time to work the action. I know these are alot of questions but i just wanted some opinons.
