7mm STW Brotherhood - For those who shoot the 7mm Shooting Times Westerner

Does any of the brethren have a ballistics calculator?? I am trying to figure drop on the 145 LRX bullet.
The stats are as follows.
Bullet 145 LRX
BC. .486
Speed. 3413 ave.
Caliber. ( obviously 7 mm).
Zero. 200-225
Temp. 30-50 ish.

The only thing I don't know is how to figure out what the humidity, or barometric pressure may be. I have read that some formulas ask for it.

What I want to do is make a chart of drops at different distances , given a 200 zero. My kid used to have a app on his phone, but doesn't have it anymore. Thanks to anyone who can help.

7stw,

This is with your data adjusted for no altitude, since you live on the coast, 200yd Zero at 45 degrees F.

Nosler Accubond Long Range!!!!!

Just read about this, another bullet to get and see how the rifle shoots with them. It looks like they will have 7mm in 150, 168, and 175 grs. The BC's are high, all over 600.

Hope these do come out soon!!!

Dano, and Black sheep, I am blown away with the ballistics info.
Dano, that chart is amazing, and loaded with info. I have to sit and dissect it a little, and figure out how to utilize it. I am going to print it, and make a laminated business card size card, and either keep it with me, or stick it to my stock.
Black sheep, thank you very much also for the break down, as that is pretty much what I am going to end up with, or a combination of both.

I am very humbled and Thankful for all the info. THAT'S why I love this website!!!!
Take care, and I hope everybody is ok. :D:)

Bob,

You can make one directly from Hornady, Here is a link to their ballistics program. It's their second generation program and is quite useful, and much better than their first one.

Ballistics Calculator - Hornady Manufacturing, Inc

Berger has one that you can download and run on your computer as does Vortex rifle scopes. Hornadys is by far the most user friendly of these "basic" programs and you can even print a cheat sheet for taping to your rife stock.

I also use I snipe on my I-pod, I know there are others for Android and better ones for I-pods ansd I-pads, but I can't think of them right now.

later,

Dan

I use Ballistic AE (Advanced Edition) on my ipod/iphone. I have isnipe as well but my personal preference is Ballistic AE.
Both great programs.

Looking for some input here.
I have a Sako 75 in 7mmSTW. It has a 26" barrel with a threaded brake installed, previous to me owning it.
I have long wanted to custom barrel a rifle, so I think this will be the one. Here in Canada, gunsmiths are few and far between, and selection is more limited than in the USA.
There is 2 reputable guys I am looking at, and they offer different barrel types.
Here is the options.
Broughton, Krieger, Shilen, and McGowen
Is there any of these manufacturers that shine out above the rest, or that I should stay away from?
I would like to stay with something close to the factory profile, meaning lighter, as this is a hunting rifle. A little heavier barrel would be OK, but nothing like a varmint style.
Likely have something with a finished length of 26-27", probably without a brake. 1-9 twist rate as well. I enjoy shooting with the brake at the range, but don't like that I can't just thread it off and head out hunting without re-sighting the rifle.

Any input would be appreciated, I am hoping to send this one out to be done as soon as hunting seasons are over for the year.

Don't forget : Bartlein Barrels, Inc. - Calibers
Lilja Precision Rifle Barrels

Fire 306 - I have a 26" Douglas premium air gauged barrel that shoots one hole groups. It was made to match the Remington magnum contour, then fluted to cut back the weight. No muzzle brake. It is my first & only custom barrel and I couldn't be happier.

HEY GUYS -I am STILL looking to sell my Sako 7mm STW. Nothing wrong with the old one, just need to pay off a new STW that is exactly what I've always wanted.

The rifle for sale is a Sako model 995 - Factory original - no upgrades or changes other than a trigger job (2lbs, breaks like glass). For those not familiar with this rifle, It is built on the TRG-S action, which is a 3 lug push feed design. It has a 26" medium contour free floated barrel, black synthetic monte carlo stock with a nice palm swell
. The action is a matte blue finish and the barrel & bolt handle are a high luster blue. One feature I really like is the detachable box magazine which holds 4 rounds and is plenty long to seat bullets out there. I bought it 10 years ago and have only shot 60 rounds through it, all factory loads. Always functioned perfectly. Gun is in 99% condition. For me this rifle was always a pleasure to shoot, recoil very manageable, probably due to the stock design. I have 2 sets of Sako rings (med & high) that mate with the integral dovetail bases on the receiver. The rifle weighs 9.2 lbs with a brand new Leupold 4.5x14x40 matte VX3 CDS on it. I would sell with or without the scope.

Rifle with 2 sets of rings rings - $995.00 OBO

Rifle with scope & rings - $1490.00 OBO

Fire306, any of the barrels that you mentioned will well suit your purpose. The onesthat come to the top, ( IMHO) would be Lilja, Kreiger. The only thing that sucks is the wait time. One other possible caveat, is there aren't many " smiths " out there that have experience when it comes to Sako's. The Sako action, is about as good as it gets. Very smooth, extra long, which comes in handy, and the triggers are SWEET. I had one, but had to let it go to fund another project. That rifle was very accurate. It took me awhile to figure out what it wanted to shoot, but once I found it, WOW!!!!
Do your homework, and find a smith that works with and has experience with Sako actions first. Then pick you barrel, and discuss the contour with the builder.
Aftermarket stocks are difficult to find, unless you spend megabucks.

P/ S, the Broughton barrels are excellent as well. Also, as was said, the Douglass Supreme is an awesome barrel too. Less money, and less wait time too. lightbulb
