6.5SS and the 129 Absolute Hammer

At 62.5gr, I can hear just a hint of powder rattle. At 63.0, must be 100% case fill. I don't hear any rattle.
If you look at the primers, you can see sharpie marks. This is how I know what charge weight each one is. I dropped a box with a ladder test ready to go one time, and it taught me this lesson. You can see the corresponding marks on my load book.

Ugh! That's an awful feeling. Done it myself.... once. Great way to address the issue. Thanks for your contributions.

Cool thanks for the info. Be interested to see how high this bullet goes. Based on your velocities with the heavier bullets I would expect close to 3250 with something like a 130 AR hybrid. Be really cool to see it hit the 3400 mark with the Absolute.

Only shot at 331 today. But had great accuracy results. Great weather for testing this morning too. 37°-49°, almost zero wind until I finished my testing. 1401' elevation, rangefinder showed 27.82 barometric pressure.

Starting velocity was actually higher than I anticipated. End velocity where I hit pressure was close to what I expected. I did shoot a couple of the top end shots in my 20" barrel too. That action seems to show pressure just a bit later than my Lone Peak TI. But not by much. Maybe a grain or two.

I will try a ladder with N565 just to rule out any possible speed increases with a slower burn rate powder. But I was pretty happy with the results. I will be working in the 6/7/8/9 range (55.5-57.0gr) at 3230-3280fps range. Recoil was mild, but definitely felt a bit sharper than the H1000/RL23/N565 loads and heavies I am used to. Just a bit quicker "pop" feeling. I would have LOVED to hit 3400, but didn't happen with the 6.5SS. But even at 3250, makes it a 925 yard deer round where I would be using it.

Again, I am seeing right about a 120fps difference between my 26" & 20" barrels. 20fps/1" is pretty darn good. That has shown in several different loads between my two rifles. From 144s to 156s, and even the 131 Hammer Hunter.

Exilent intel Lance!
Thanks Much!
Looks like my H4350 may not last as long as I was hoping... LOL!

Lance, that's a really a great contribution, as usual. I'm paying close attention to this post, as my 24" 6.5 SS pack rifle is a candidate for the 129 AH. For now I'm running the 156 eol at 62.0 gr N-565 @ 3,040.

I had a good visit with Steve today and bought some bullets. Your post is nice concise map for mine w/H-4350. Your work follows the idea that we should use faster powders for top velocities, but I've noted some are sticking with the slower powders and finding good results.

Did a little research on burn rates around H-4350 and found these options I have plenty of:

#123 RL-16
#124 H-4350
#128 Hybrid 100V
#129 StaBALL 6.5

I have lots of Retumbo, RL-26 and N-565, but they are down the list and if it's true, they are probably too slow on the 129 AH. You were going to try N-565, but the chart puts it closer to 570 than 560.

I just wondering what powders are the optimal for the AH in different weights in so many cartridges, haha!
Based only on what I've read, the lighter cartridges are where it's at. Your 2 cents???
