Hi Kevin......I don't know about the Sherman but Rob (RH300UM) shot some in his 6.5 Sherman Shortmag and he was very impressed. I think he was using N570.......Rich

Not what I was expecting this morning. 15-20+mph winds, snow, visibility only to 300yds. There was one pickup leaving the range as I was entering, he said he was trying to shoot his rifle at the pistol range(25yd) and it was just blowing too hard and he was giving up.
By the time I got a target up and the chronograph anchored down it stopped snowing long enough to shoot this group.

That's .366" cold bore first load at a mild 3030fps. Add 3 grains it came up to 3220fps. with no signs of being maxed out.

When I could get a target to stay up AB said to come up 24.8- left 8.6 for 1030yds. Pitched a couple, checked, Nothing. Changed the bc came down 2moa and took out 2 moa windage and got on target. I need to load up and go back when the wind dies down but I'm already thinking these are going to be keepers.

That's a good start Cliff and not a bad group, especially in those conditions. Are you going to try some RL26 with the 143's?
How much Retumbo were you using? 64-65 grs.?

I went up to 66gr and that filled the case to the bottom of the neck I stopped there.
I will load some R26 starting at 63gr. the load density should be a bit better than Retumbo.
Rhian is going to check the cartridge length with the gauge for the new reamer, I'm curious where this bullet will seat in a new barrel.

I think it will be pretty good. Likely up in the neck a bit. 63 grains should work well and give some pretty good velocity. I continue to get VERY low es with the RL26.....Rich

Finally got back out to shoot a little today. I picked up some 143 ELDX's and they were burning a hole in my bench.
THIS RECIPE IS FOR THE 6.5SS (NOT THE SHERMAN)
7mm Norma Saum brass, F210, 60 RL26, 143 ELDX, MV 3201'
Bullets were seated .010" off the lands at 3.08" coal (long bullets!)
After checking velocity with the mag speed, I fired 3 shots at 100yds. The first 2 shots were the top 2 and I called the third low. I figured the first 2 were where zero was for longer range. I then backed off to 780 yards and set up the bipod and rest. The wind was blowing at about 6-7 mph from about 7:30. I fired the first 2 shots, and the wind switched clear around to about 10:30 at the same speed. I figured the drift at about the same so held the same aiming point. This was with NO load development with this bullet! I feel that with a little tweaking, it will perform VERY well. It only took 13moa to be on at 783 yards. It takes 19.2moa at 100yds., and I still have 1000 ft./lbs.@ 1210 yards and 1775' velocity to expand the bullet!
I would like to have seen the group if the wind had not changed on me before the third shot?

Here is a pic of the SS. By the way, I fired 61 grains at 3252' and could have fired 62 which would be right at 3300'. My plan is to go back out with the 60 grain load at different seating depths and once that is determined, do a ladder test......Rich

Is there a specific primer yall prefer? Or is it more a matter of just using the same ones and being consistent.
